What People Are Saying About The Majestic

The Scene – The Majestic complex includes concert space, the Garden Bowl (rock and bowl) and Magic Stick for pool. Reggae reigns, with some rock and blues, and local bands at the Stick. In the Cafe, culture-seekers on their way downtown are replaced after dinner by a younger bohemian crowd. Local artists' work shares space with Matisse knockoffs in the airy restaurant. Middle Eastern dishes rub shoulders with Mexican, Thai and American.

Great Consistent food and service

by sl8roof

The Majestic has been one of our favorite places to eat in Detroit for quite a few years now and never disappoints us. I couldn't help thinking that the previous review (one star) must either be very demanding and unreasonable customers or simply experienced a fluke of some kind. We often eat here if going to the film theater at the DIA or to the symphony 2 blocks away or if we're just looking for good food and service that's relatively close to home. The crowd is a great mix of everything and the building that it's located in is a bit of a destination itself with it's own concert hall, bowling alley, billiards, bars and lively conversation and people watching. Yes, there are panhandlers outside sometimes, but I've never felt theatened or unsafe here nor had any touble with street parking.....but then, I grew up in Detroit (so I'm, not easliy intimidated). Go experience the Majestic and the neighboring Magic stick and chances are great that you won't be disappointed.

Best Pierogis by Pat

Don?t? let the appearance of the outside awning deter you from entering.

Very hip atmosphere, warehouse atmosphere lightly decorated to feel warm and friendly. Relaxed music at lunch.

Wide variety of dishes, all with an interesting twist that make them uniquely Majestic?s. Pat?s daily special this day was white potato pirogies to die for; artichoke hearts, sun dried tomatoes, sweet smoked ham, pesto sauce. I?m sorry I split the order. Mexican fried raviolis had just the right amount of heat to please those that like hot yet not too much for those with more sensitive palates. Chicken potpie, should be listed as ?for two? but being able to take home a doggie bag made my husband happy. Can?t wait to share this place with friends.

  • Pros: Great food, great atmosphere, wonderful service
  • Cons: Parking , you may have to walk across the street but it's worth it.

One of the Worst Dining Experiences in Detroit

by apr1

My party of 7 had theatre tickets at the Fisher at 8;00. We arrived at 6pm figuring 2 hours was ample time to eat & make it to the theatre on time. The last of our party arrived at 6:05, The restaurant was not full, but it seemed that the floor was understaffed. We did not order our food until 6:40. The waiter was extremely curt---one of our party was handicapped & his wife asked if the kitchen would kindly cuts his meat before sending it out......the response was "we don't do that"......needless to say, we informed him that we wouldn't be ordering if they couldn't extend that courtesty...they did Another person asked for soup instead of a salad---response " we don't substitute".....if this is true, perhaps "I'm sorry, we do not substitue" (although I've never heard of not having a choice). At 7:10 our food began to arrive. Almost every plate was cold! "Garlic" mashed potatoes were not only cold but had huge chucks of undercooked potatoes & were totally unseasoned. One person sent dinner back & it was returned cold except for the meat. After discussing our concerns with the manager, we were given what was the equiv. of a $3 per person discount BUT then a 20% tip was automatically added to the check. By the time we paid our bill, it was 7:45 and we were all late for the curtain, I used a card to pay for my portion of the bill. Today I discovered that the correct amount cleared but they also added a billing for $39 that will not be realeased until Feb 1st unless they fax a cancellation! I find this totally unacceptable for any restaurant! About the only positive thing I can say about this dining experience was that we had a very polite busboy who has much more concerned about our dining experience than our waiter.....he should get all of the forced tip.

  • Pros: Nice surrounding
  • Cons: Bad Service--cold food
