Editorial Review for State Bar – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
The hardwood floors and big, comfortable booths offer a homey atmosphere that invites groups. Old photos of Detroit's past don the walls, giving patrons a black-and-white peek at long-ago sporting events. Sports fans pack the bar on game days. There's also a pre- and post-theater crowd and a sizeable happy-hour gang. Pool tables, a big-screen TV and a few other televisions behind the bar entertain. Burgers, bar bites and pizza are also available.

When most metro Detroiters think of The State, 89X and alternative rock jump to mind. That is only part of the story. The State Bar, directly adjacent to (actually in the same building as) the theater, has a nice, urban ambience and is well-suited to a drink after a game or a show. One of my favorite aspects is the beer - it's one of the few places in town you can find Boddington's ale. Hard to find a table, but worth a visit.
Pros: Atmosphere, Beer selection
Cons: Crowded
