Best Chicken Wings in Detroit.
I visited Sweetwater for the first time three weeks ago, after a concert at Chene Park. I have been back to Sweetwater a total of four times in the past three weeks. The chicken wings are the best I have ever had! Right now I'm so hooked on the wings that I haven't tried anything else. I've never waited more than five minutes to be seated, it's a little cramped as far as seating, but the wings definitely make up for it. As far as the waitstaff, I was disappointed once out of the four times, I visited. The one time I was disappointed, the waiter had disappeared and didn't bring back what was requested. The other three times the waitresses were friendly and dependent. The gentleman that works at the door is very friendly and often times goes above and beyond his duties to make sure your visit is pleasant.
All in all I had a wonderful experience and I'm going for wings every week!!
Sweet food, Watered down service.... If the wings werent so damn good I'd never come back here. So instead I never dine in anymore. I'm in the service industry myself so I always tip well, at the minimum 25%, for good karma of course. I can honestly say I've never left a tip over 15% at Sweetwater before. Rude and inconsiderate waitstaff. Most people would agree, don't believe me, find out for yourself.
ATROCIOUS SERVICE. The wait staff is atrocious, rude and not customer friendly. The manager on duty the evening of February 23, 2008 does not understand the value of listening to a complaint and trying to resolve it through compromise. Do not patronize this establishment. I have no idea what the food tastes like, after waiting 45 minutes for a class of water, I did not dare order any food. I cannot believe in this day and age that a restaurant does not have the ability to serve fresh vegetables. Anyone who expects a clean environment and to be served by a courteous staff should AVOID SWEETWATERS. There are too many other choices downtown where the customer is appreciated.
Great food and interesting place!.
A family member recommended the Sweetwater to us as a great place for a casual dinner. We stopped in at about 6:30 on a Friday night before the Wings game. We were seated immediately and although it was busy, the service was both timely and friendly. The smells were incredible and the food and beer selections were great.
We ordered the "Big Pig" and the "Sweetwater" burger. Both were absolutely delicious and the portions were huge!
We parked at the Joe prior to dinner and had planned on going back to the arena via Peoplemover, but our host suggested their free shuttle, which was at the door as we were leaving the restaurant, so we hopped on. It was quick and comfortable.
Fantastic food. Contrary to other reviews, the service was pretty good ... polite and timely. The food was spectacular from the zesty wings, to the fall off the bone ribs and the tender big pig sandwich. The seasoned fries were also very tasty. My wife and I live in Northville and will definitely try to make it back downtown for this gem.
Pity the service and professionalism of the industry isn't as good as the food. I am from Australia living downtown and trying to promote the resturants to all my friends that live in Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills. I was at sweetwater with my husband the other night and was disappointed that 3 ladies that came after us were seated before us and also that we had to wait in line for 20 mins. We have been to this resturant a number of times and have also ordered take outs on couple of occasions and would have no hesitation in recommending the food to anyone. My husband and I had dinner at Sweet Georgia Brown last Friday where the service, and ambience was great but food pretty average..
Great place.
This is a very distinctive place, definitly the sort of place you come downtown for. Works well for during the workday, or late night i.e. after sporting events. The crowd is really diverse which is nice. Most of all the food is awesome, with so many choices. The portions are great for the prices. My experience with the service was good...we had a great waitress during a busy late-night.
Street parking is normally easy to find at night. It's within easy walking distance of all of downtown east of Woodward.
Greektown restaurant serves up the sweet taste of ribs with a dash of historic pride..
In Short
Sweetwater Tavern resides in a distinctive turn-of-the-century Victorian-style building near the heart of Greektown. The lunchtime rush is one of the most furious in town, with businesspeople shuffling in to sample some of the best barbecue in town. Sandwiches are affordable and portions are generous. However, in order to truly appreciate this restaurant, you must sample the ribs. Tasty Stroh's ice cream is available for dessert.
food good; service bad. Food was great. We ordered the big pig and the fish and chips. Price were very reasonable. Bad news was the service. Our waitress was rude and very slow even though we were her only table.
One of my favorite establishments. I am a person who flat out loves Sweetwater Tavern. In my opinion the place is a classic. I especially love the Food on the menu. The Steak Bites are awesome, the wings are unbelieveable, and the Seasoned Fries are awesome. In fact I'm on the way to Sweetwater right now.
