Journey Editorial Review
The Skinny
In the early '80s, classic-rock castrati Steve Perry steered Journey out of art-rock obscurity to become one of the era's most successful arena acts. The group perfected the power ballad with hits such as "Don't Stop Believin'," "Lights" and "Separate Ways." Over the years, Journey has employed more musicians than Spinal Tap could ever dream of. Mainstay Perry provided one of the few constants--until 1998, when he quit on the eve of a reunion tour. Will Journey ever be the same? Fortunately for fans, yes. The replacement singer, Steve Augeri, sounds stunningly similar to Perry on Journey's new album, "Arrival," and will keep the lighter flames burning on tour.
