What People Are Saying About Sweet Georgia Brown - Detroit

In Short – Just a block from Greektown's strip of eateries, Sweet Georgia Brown features curvy retro booths and mirrors and rich textiles in muted shades of gold and green. "Fine food and all that jazz" are the promise, with live music complementing the chic soul food on most nights. Fried lobster is a popular signature dish, and sweet potatoes come in three configurations. Stay for dessert, as the Georgia peach cobbler is more than enough for two.
Editor's Tips
- Where to Sit:
- Stick close to the bar for people-watching. The eclectic and stylish gravitate to this center stage to see and be seen.
- The Extras:
- Hot jazz is on tap Tuesday to Saturday evenings.
- Look Good:
- Jeans and sneakers are frowned upon; be sure to wear something snappy.
- Parking:
- There is a lot directly across the street as well as free parking at the casino two blocks down.

This restaurant closed in early 2009. While it may have been a wonderful place, they fell behind on rent, and were evicted.
- Pros: Closed
- Cons: Closed
high marks for this restaurant

No reservations for six, and we were seated in 15 minutes. Service was prompt and pleasant. Everyone ordered something different, and everyone was very pleased with their meal. The bill was astonishingly low. Will definitely return and recommend to others!
- Pros: Great BBQ!
Worth any wait!!!

Excellent food, Excellent service

First of all I am not a citizen of Detroit but I went through the trouble of signing up for the city search site just so that I could say what I feel about this restaraunt. I went there a few years or so back; when it first opened up and I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. I didn't get the chance to enjoy it as much as I would have liked because my children were with me. Though I wanted them to experience fine dining with familly, it is not really a place small children can appreciate but it is "doable." Anyway, the fried lobster tail is what I had and some delicious desert which was well over enough for two people. The music and service were nice and it is just nice to be able to enjoy fine dining right there in Greektown. I look forward to going back one day and having the brunch that I heard was great. Out of all of these reviews so far, only a couple were negative. I would say that's a good review for anyone who is still considering. Maybe those cusotmers went during management vacation and I think we all know how that can go sometimes (unfortunately). Negatively speaking, the location is not the most ideal especially when considering appearance (inside vs. out).
One of Detroit's Excellent Finds

This was my first experience at Sweet Georgia Browns and I'd have to say it was excellent. The seafood was the best I've ever had. I had the fried twin lobster tails which were heavenly and my fiance had that nights special which was a lobster shell stuffed with lobster, shrimp & crab with a champaigne cream sauce. He still can't stop raving about that one! The wine selection was nice and the jazzy atmosphere gave you something to do while being there. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and very polite. The entire staff was very accomodating, from checking on us frequently to walking you to the restroom when you ask where it was located instead of just pointing. Our server never let our hands do any work, she was constantly pouring our wine and cleaning our table. I definitely can't wait to go back and would recommend it to anyone.
- Pros: Excellent Seafood, Great Atmosphere
- Cons: A little hard to see from the street
