Great sushi, reasonable price. I love this place. The new location on Eureka road isn't as cozy as the other one was but they needed more room and had to expand.

Excellent sushi, fast and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Enjoyable Every Time. I am somewhat a regular at the Black Pine. Its outside appearance might seem somewhat ordinary, like a hole in the wall, but it's anything but. The food is full of flavor, from Kake Udon to the Dragon Roll.

On Wednesdays, between 11am and 2pm they offer all-you-can-eat California Rolls.

The prices are reasonable for a sushi restaurant. I caution anyone to keep in mind that extremely cheap sushi could be extremely dangerous sushi. This place has been safe to eat at for as long as I've been coming to it, which is roughly five years.

Ewww. This place is terrible. I used to eat sushi at least once a week when I lived away at school. When I can home one weekend and found a sushi place downriver I was so excited. However, after eating there I was so grossed out I couldn't even think about sushi without wanting to vomit. This place is so gross. After being so grossed out I needed the taste out of my mouth and decided to get some green tea ice cream dessert, even their ice cream was awful. If this is the only place you have had sushi at, I am sorry you are missing out. Try the old mansion place in Novi...

Great CA rolls!. I go here a couple of times a month. Always great staff and food! The salad is fresh and they have the best ginger dressing, the miso soup is also great! I love to get the CA combo either #1 or #2. They have about 6 different types of CA rolls which makes every experience different and yummy! You have to try the Burning CA Roll!! It is really spicy but I would have to say this is the best they have! I always bring my friends who are new to sushi, they have all loved it and wanted to go back.

Great Staff, Great Food. My friend and I tried this resturant several monthes ago, and loved it! Neither of us had ever had sushi before and was really looking forward to trying it. We were not disappointed. I am not a fan of fish, but we eat there several times a month. I love the spicy CA roll, and the Tempora CA roll! I would recommend this resturant to others. The staff was helpful and answered our questions.

sysco. The cat is out of the bag! They get there poduct from sysco. If you have ever had good sushi then you would know the sushi here is low scale for top price. When I sent my salmon back for not being fresh the owner took my whole plate of sashimi and tossed it in the dirty dishes bin ? I was only asking the salmon be taken back. I have been here several times due to the fact this is the only sushi resturant in this area. It is generally hitt or miss with the freshness of the fish. The staff is very great! I find it to be intense when the owner is around and I was not happy with her throwing my food away and not replacing my food.....

Delicious And Reasonable. This is a little hideaway place. They dont advertise and they place is almost always packed. They have great homemade food and personable sushi chefs. Never had a problem here , and we've been eating here once a week for years!

Fab!. **Update 06/03/10***

Went to BPT last night and tried a new roll: the Obama. It was not only the best sushi I ever had, but it was one of the best foods I've ever had, period. It was like "gourmet" sushi. Doesn't even need soy sauce. It was so delicious that I had to come back and add a new review. (this website makes me add it to my last one.)

***2008***

Please ignore the verbose bad review and pay attention to the majority of good ones because those are spot on! This place is DEE-LISH. My friend and I have went multiple times and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The CA rolls are great and the tempura (any type) is great too. Try any one of the "special" rolls and you won't be disappointed. We love it. It is a little pricey, especially for lunch (we end up spending about $20 each) but it's a splurge we fit into our budgets simply because we love it so much. They have an all-you-can-eat lunch special on CA rolls on Wednesdays which I just discovered. The dining area is a bit small but always packed. You do the math...it's popular for a reason.

Yuck. I had to write about my experience to warn others. I went here for lunch one day while I was in Detroit based on all the 4 star reviews. Possibly the worst sushi experience of my life. I ordered a Sushi special (mostly chef's choice Nigiri with California roll, Miso Soup, and a house salad. First came the salad... brown lettuce and poor cuts of lettuce. The Miso Soup was good.

Then came the sushi. First, Nigiri should be bite sized, it should all fit in your mouth. The cuts of fish were too large. That would be forgivable if it we decent sushi that wasn't stringy and tough like a bad piece of beef. All the rice kept dropping off when I picked up the pieces of Nigiri. Either they don't know how to cook the rice or the chef couldn't figure out how to pack it. Now here is the disgusting part. Imagine trying to stuff too-big a piece of raw fish (I love sushi, don't get me wrong) into your mouth, starting to chew and... you find you're chewing on a fish scale. Yes, I had to pick a fish scale out of my mouth. Gross.

Two cuts of the fish were so bad I couldn't even eat them. The chef apparently needs to go to school to learn how to trim fish. Two other pieces that I did eat had ragged and stringy edges that dropped to my plate along with all the rice.

The CA roll was a mess. Again, either poor packing or poor rice prep had the things falling all over my plate.

At the end of my meal I had a plate with two poorly trimmed pieces of fish sitting on sagging beds of rice, a plate full of loose rice that fell off the other Nigiri and CA rolls, and a nauseated feeling in my stomach. I should have gotten a burger at the airport.

When I got home I went to my local sushi place for their lunch special the next day. At the end of that meal, I had maybe four pieces of loose rice on my plate and I was not nauseated. So I confirmed it's not me, it was the restaurant.
