Named for a gasoline magnate and patron of Detroit culture, Max M. Fisher Music Center has been hailed as an emblem of the new Detroit. A meticulously restored 2,000-seat Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall contrasts with a contemporary, inviting 135,000-square-foot expansion. Designed by Donald Schmitt, the hall incorporates glass and wood deftly. Other features in "the Max" include the 450-seat Music Box theatre, music education center, a back-of-the-house facility and dressing rooms.
