As a new resident in Michigan, I was unfamiliar with the Cold Stone Creamery but glad I made the visit. I was surprised that before I placed my order I was asked if I have ever visited. After responding "no", the (overly?) friendly clerk explained the basics: All the ice cream was made from a 'base' recipe; once a flavor was chosen the server would scoop up the ice cream onto a cold slab; various ingredients could be added. A la ice cream made to order. Of course, the store already has some pre-determined flavors to make things easier for those daunted by the seemingly endless choices. Great quality ice cream and although a little pricey, it's not unreasonable considering the niche this non-typical ice cream store offers to its customers. Definitely a must when friends are in town or to cap off an evening with a loved one(s).
