Editorial Review for Petite Crevette – by Justin Hartung

The Scene
Owner Neil Ganic originally opened Petite Crevette in Brooklyn Heights as the casual little sister to La Bouillabaisse in Brooklyn Heights. After being closed for a few years, both restaurants have relocated to Carroll Gardens. The aqua-blue space, minimally decorated with antique lanterns and fish-themed art, is no bigger than a boat cabin--convenient for Ganic's loyal, mostly local fan base, who can read the single handwritten menu from anywhere in the restaurant.

The Food
The daily-changing menu inspires instant devotion. Crab cakes, fluffy and flavorful, compete with those from a Maine roadside shack, while fried oysters are richly satisfying without excessive heaviness. Pan-seared trout is delicate and moist, while a salmon filet is so flavorful, it barely needs its light mustard seasoning--and might just trigger a fantasy of the nearby BQE as a raging river. If available, the fig and blue cheese appetizer makes a light and lovely dessert.

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

The food is prepared to order and always fresh. The service is friendly and excellent. The environment is reminiscent of my grandmother's kitchen and her back yard in the summertime. Thanks to the staff and chef for a great place to eat and relax. Have eaten here several times during the past few months and am headed there now, with my wife and our friend (his first time). Never disappointed!

This place is amazing. Neil Ganic is brilliant. Try the Thai cod curry, as it was inspired by the late, great Amanda Green. His salmon burger is groovy, the crimini are really just baby portabella. Oh well.

Pros: Amanda Green!

Cons: No booze.
