We used to eat at Wheat & Rye all the time, but won't anymore. The menu is the same, but the food you get isn't. Beer battered shrimp is now out of a box breaded shrimp. Nachos don't have meat. The waitress was the only thing still good.
50 cent slice of cheese. I thought it was bad enough when I had to pay for refills on the kids pops. Then I got my bill and seen that I paid 50 cents for a single slice of cheese are you serious 50 cents for just a plain slice of american cheese its to bad Wheat and Rye was always a great place to go didnt have to pay for the water, but 50 cents for cheese wow, times are tuff but come on. You as a business owner to turn people on to your business not turn them away. Wont be going back anytime soon.
wheat and rye. the food was great as was the price BUT the service was not good at all. our waitress combined all o our bills together after I ask her to seperate them then when she gave us the one bill she called me a liar saying i didn`t ask for seperate billing! we also ask for water about 30min. before we left and never did get it.she spent all her time behind the bar watching t.v.
wheat and rip off. whats up with paying for water? YOU SPEND $100.00 DOLLARS ON DRINKS AND FOOD AND HAVE TO PAY FOR WATER. NOT US. MAKE YOUR MONEY OFF SOME OTHER SUCKER . WE WILL NEVER BE BACK. THERE ARE WAY TO MANY STEAK HOUSES THAT WANT PEOPLES BUSINESS WITHOUT RIPPING THEM OFF..
BEST EVER!.
Where else can you find a 20oz steak for under $13.00?? My steak was perfectly cooked and my husband had a cheese burger and fries. My service was great!! The wait staff were all very friendly. The HD TVS are eye catching and great for watching any sport. If they want to charge for water, so be it! I would rather pay for water and enjoy a monster steak for so cheap!
Good Job Wheat & Rye!!
charges for water. Managment Doesn't Care About Customers,we have been going to wheat& rye for years, can you believe they wanted to charge me for water with my meal?i don't drink beer , liquer or pop.{my husband drinks enough for both of us!] i was so apalled that we walked out! now were heading to hop's&barley in melvindale for great & yes, FREE TAP WATER,giant sandwiches and a fantastic $10.00 steak. exellent food and great, friendly staff i can't believe they would treat their customers that way. so long wheat & rye
No Water, unless you want to buy bottled.. The wheat and Rye is one of the best steak houses in the downriver area. The food is great and the price is not absorbant. I normally get very good service. I do however have a complaint about my visit on 8/08/08. After ordering our food for 4 peaople we asked the waitress for a glass of water cause my husband was getting the hicups. We were told we would have to buy a bottle of water. The waitress was very apologetic. I asked to speak with the manager. He told me because of the rise in the cost of food the owner started selling bottle water instead of raising the price of the food. I explained that we were paying customers and should not have to pay the $1.00 for water when we are paying a $70.00 food bill plus tip. I was more or less told he would not break this new rule under no circumstances. I guess I will go to the Coney Island if I want free tap water. This I thought is poor customer service. Are times that hard you can not get a glass of water. I told the manager I would take tap water which is what Idrink at home, again I was told I would have to buy my water. After 10 years I do not know if this will stop me from going to the Wheat and Rye but it did leave a nasty taste in my mouth.
Don't care about customers.... It is a shame how down hill Wheat and Rye is going. The food is pretty good, and they have decent drink specials, but the service and management have major problems. The will not serve a glass of ice water. The only way to get water in Wheat and Rye is to purchase a bottle. When I asked to speak to the manager about the waitress refusing to bring me a glass of water, she told me, "it is the manager's rule, and he doesn't care if you complain." This tells me one of three things. The waitress was lying and wanted a higher cut of tips due to a higher bill, the manager is completely arrogant, or they have some water issue and are making customers paying for the repairs. I didn't feel like having a beer yet, and was not paying for water, so I ordered a pop. Apparently there are no refills here, or the wait staff is not familiar with customer service. My glass was empty prior to the food arriving, and was not refilled once during my visit. Based on this experience, I will never be returning to this bar, and have notified a good number of people in the city about the terrible visit. I am curious as to what would happen if I ordered a bunch of drinks, and asked for water to sober up. Based on what I heard from the waitress, the manager would rather I get behind the wheel drunk than serve me a glass of ice water.
They Charge for Water. I was appalled when I went in Wheat & Rye last week and ordered water--They brought me a brand in a bottle I never heard of and charged me. I am always insulted by restaurants who charge for water. So insulted in fact, that although I have eaten there on a regular basis for years I am switching to Boomers.
awesome beautiful waitstaff.....great food. this place is a better restaurant than it is a bar. that being said, it is still a great bar. 10 giant plasmas can be seen from every seat in the house. great place to watch sports. underrated sports bar.
