Tips for Benihana

August 10, 2008

Knife-wielding chefs put on a show at this communal Japanese grill.. In Short
Benihana started out as a tiny four-table restaurant in New York City's theater district before becoming an international chain. Diners sit around large tables where chefs ostentatiously chop, slice, stir-fry and grill. Entree options are simple--shrimp, chicken, steak and scallops--and preparation is uniform. Every entree comes with a similar stock of sides: rice, onion soup, shrimp appetizer, iceberg lettuce drizzled with dressing, sauteed vegetables and green tea.

Assembly Line Food. Okay! You are looking for a good time, I can understand. BUT good sushi, NO WAY! Benihana although good at what they do (entertain people on their birthdays) can not make sushi and should not!

Can never get enough!. Food is always GREAT! Service is always GREAT! Prices are a bit high, but I guess it is worth it, considering all of the entertainment! My husband doesn't like to go unless we have a big party because he WILL NOT sit with strangers, so that is a big draw back. My 9 year old loves it though and the Sui Chef always aims to please the kids at the table!

Benihorrible!. I have heard a lot about Japanese steak houses and I wanted to try one. Having dined at several (much better) Japanese restaurants I tried Benihana in Novi (twice). Both times the food was a pathetic excuse for Japanese cuisine and VASTLY overpriced. Service was horrible and the performances turned in by the "chefs" were sad at best. I do not understand why people waste valuable time and/or money to go to a place like that - I certainly will not ever again!
