Tips for La Shish

La Shish. Excited that La Shish reopened. The East Dearborn location in much smaller than the former location, but the music was equally loud. The management promptly obliged and turned the music down. The service was prompt, no real complaints. The shish tawook was slightly dry, but not enough to send back. Family was divided over final decision. I prefer La Pita in West Dearborn.

BEST FOOD!!!. When first driving down Michigan Ave and seeing the La Shish sign at the original location lit up, I thought "No way!" Everyone knows that La Shish was the best Middle Eastern food in Michigan. I immediately pulled over went in and re-experienced the amazing food I missed so much. I have been told the new owners not only obtained the rights to the "La Shish" name, but they also bought all the secret receipes and kept some of the old cooks. I am so happy that this resaurant just opened back up this year!

Bottom Line:

Best food I have ever had in my life!

You won't regret trying this place!

Affordable and amazingly satisfying!

Friendly staff and the new owners CARE!

Absolutely Delightful!. We tried to visit La Shish 2 years ago when we visited family in E Lansing as my boyfriend lived there years ago and spoke of the many great Middle Eastern meals he had enjoyed at this restaurant. Sadly, it was closed and out of business. This year after landing in Detroit, once again we headed toward Michigan Avenue in search of this cuisine, and behold, La Shish was not only open, but bustling with business. The food was everything and more than we expected! The fresh baked bread was so good we had to take some home for the family! We shared a chicken dish and it was so delicious we mopped up the juices with the bread. We fly home Sunday, and we plan to save time for a stop at La Shish before the airport. The restaurant is under new ownership, the staff and management, friendly and efficient. No complaints here, except maybe we'd like wine with out food! Don't miss this little gem!

Avoid - Avoid - Avoid. We tried to give this place opportunity. They failed.

The service is RUDE.

The managers Humiliate the workers - who in turn take it out on the customers.

AND... we do NOT like getting Stared At by management.

Avoid Avoid Avoid.

Go further west on Michigan and try La Pita.

Muuuch nicer and much better food.

You can relax there and enjoy.

Middle Eastern fare with elegance.. In Short
La Shish, founded in 1989, bridges Middle Eastern culture with Western hospitality. The exotic decor consists of proprietor Talal Chahine's eastern instruments, decorative brass objects and photographs from his village in Lebanon. Mixing falafel, shish kabob and hummus, La Shish offers an extensive menu of Lebanese appetizers, combo dishes and desserts. Raw juices and smoothies are also quite popular. Close dinner out with baklava.

not what i expected. For the big name they have in Michigan this is not what i expected. After goin there to 3 different locations i could honestly tell you that each experience was worst than the other, at the first la shish in dearborn as i walked in the manager in arguin with one of the workers, i guess the worker is askin for his paycheck that he didn't get for a month anyways,we got seated service took for ever our server was rude and ugly, food was over cooked and the kitchen wasn't clean, prices were too high, and place smelled really bad, it was just bunch of people that didn't know how to do thier jobs i guess, at the other locations we eperinced rude service and bad food as well, if you ever go to michigan i would recomend Amir on Warren st. great food , good prices and nice welcomin service. Never again i will go to this place

La Shish and Talal's. Talal's does not show up on City Search, for some reason. But if you visit Dearborn, you'll see the 2 restaurants next to each other. They are connected and owned by the same people. In Dearborn, Talal's has the nicer, exotic ambiance and seating for groups and families. They both serve great food. Hummus and tabouli are great excellent.

If you visit La Shish, it's more like a diner atmosphere. The advantage is the juice bar is one this side and you can see the smoothies being made - they are delicious and a must try.

Unparalled. I no longer live in the Detroit area, but when I visit, I always have to hit La Shish more than once. I have yet to find such amazing Lebanese or Middle-Eastern food anywhere else, even on the West Coast. You can't go wrong with any of the dishes and it's great for vegans (break out of the falafel rut with the veggie galaba).

Warning: The fresh baked bread ruins you for any store-bought pita. The hummus is really good, but get the spicy "salsa" to dip the bread in. Also, get the regular salad or the spinach salad to stuff in the bread. Complement your meal with fresh mango juice.

The best Middle Eastern food in Detroit. La Shish East is the original La Shish. I enjoy eating at any La Shish, but this one is the best. I would say the only drawback is that it is a bit small, but because it is tucked away in East Dearborn, it's usually less crowded than the other locations. If you've never been there, EAT THERE NOW! It's the best. So much food, so cheap, so tasty. If you don't like lemon and spice then it may not be for you. (It's not HOT though...just flavorful).
