skip this one go to delucas. Would rather drive down Warren Ave and go to delucas. rumor they are related but delucas flavor has been the same since I was a child 40 years ago.
Bug's are free. My family and I have been eating at Amantea's for 30+ years and used to really enjoy the food. Recently, we have noticed that the quality of food seems to have gone down hill. In regards to our last visit, when our dinner was brought to us we noticed a large bug on our table. The waitress and owner claimed it must have come from the ceiling and that the top plate would have been to hot for a bug to survive. However, their were five of us at the table and one of us would have noticed a bug coming from the ceiling, especially since we had been sitting for quite some time. I believe that the bug came from the kitchen and either got on the table from a salad that was barely eaten or the bottom plate that they put under the lasagna dish. Either way it got there it was still a terrible experience. I didn't even want to eat my food after that incident. The owner laughed when he came to the table and told us that the "extra protein (referring to the bug) was free" He didn't take anything off our bill and only offered us a free ice cream, which nobody wanted! I was completely grossed out and will never eat there again.
Seen the last of me. Another restaurant that appears to be failing due to the economic down turn. This is a family type Italian fare restaurant. My last visit I noted that the number if side dishes that came with a meal have been cut to two, which would include a salad if you ordered one. The portions are smaller, the quality has fallen. I have been a patron for 32 years, but not anymore. No wonder the restaurant was not as crowded on a late Sunday afternoon as it has been in the past.
Disappointed too. I am in total agreement with quvet's review. After many, many years of dining there with my family, we always thought that the restaurant was "the best". At our last 2 visits, everything has changed for the worst and we no long care to go there to be disappointed again. How sad.
Has been my favorite for years. I have never had a bad experience here, have been going for over 20 years, and my parents have been going for longer than that. It's a great family restaurant, that has it's own unique feeling. The owner is great and very friendly! I love it!
Disappointed. I've been going to Amanteas for 20+ years. It has long been a favorite of mine and my family. However the visit tonight was very disappointing. The soft bread sticks which have long been a favorite of my kids were flat and hard. We found out that they have changed the number of side dishes that come with the meal after all these years from 3 to 2. The baked potatoes were minuscule compared to what they used to serve. Dom must be falling on hard times these days and is replacing the once quality products with sub quality products to make up the difference. After all these years I will have to think hard before going back again which is indeed a said day for my family and me.
No big deal.
Wasn't all I was led to believe. It was good, hot food, but nothing that would draw me back anytime soon. I mean, you can go to any italian restaurant and get good hot food. Dario's is another restaurant in town and probably has better food. But I'm not terribly impressed with them either.
I thought the prices were a bit high at Amatea's, but not unreasonably so. Expect to spend $20 per person, and be sure to order an appetizer - you'll wait for your entrees a short while!
Everything on the menu is top notch, best ever..
I've been going to Amantea since they opened in 1975, I've tried, over the years, everything on the menu. never have I been disappointed, some items I naturally like more and reorder those items, but even the things I don't normally get were great. Always have great service. Never have I felt out of place, be it wearing a tux or in bib-overalls, they have treated me with the same level of respect either way.
I highly reccomend this place to everone, try it at least once, then you can write your own reveiw.

Best Italian in Metro Detroit, Period.. Having frequented this restaurant for 26 years, I can honestly say it is the best family-owned Italian place in Metro Detroit. The pizza is absolutely perfect, no matter the topping. Homemade pasta is always good, the tomato sauce rocks, and my husband likes the steak and chicken entrees. And the lasagna - my god!!!! Absolutely to die for - if you don't try it you are missing out. Don't overlook the specials list, either - there's always something new and different to be found there The decor was recently updated, which is nice, and the service is phenomenal - half of the waitresses have been there, no joke, since the place opened over 30 years ago. Awesome place for pizza and Italian food!
Fantastic Pizza.
When my husband and I feel like having a great pizza and a few beers, this is the place we go to. I enjoy the casual atmosphere and the hospitality. This place is very affordable, if you
go with the pizza although that is all we have ever ordered there. We just received a coupon
in the mail (buy one dinner, get one free) from them and I'm looking forward to trying
out a new dish.
