Get your animals elsewhere.
This store's animals look half-dead. A cage with 3 parakeets will have water so nasty it looks as though it hasn't been changed in days, which is absurd. These animals are so few in number that there is no reason the staff can't better care for them.
Don't even get me started on their fish. Their bettas especially are in poor condition...they must get it from a cheap breeder. I understand that they cannot compete with big chains, but maybe then that means it's time to close up. My betta lived for a few weeks, and I routinely cleaned its tank and fed it properly.
Not an ideal place to get pets, in my opinion...they're unhealthy. Go to PetCo in Fairlane Green on Outer Drive, or go to PetSmart at Pardee and Eureka by Southland Mall. Better-cared for animals.
Toys and accessories are fine, but not good enough.
I have paid more than $50 in this store and the staff said not a word to me. In fact, when I have asked for help, I have been treated as though I was wasting their time - even when I was in and out of the store in less than a minute.
I am a 'shop local' type of person, but this store is falling short. Go to the big guys.
And forget the pet store on Dix - I went there and they have no animals anymore. They must be closing up shop, which is sad - they were a great store with animals who appeared well-cared for.

I cannot count the times over the last 15 years that they have not had my dogs brand of dog food in stock. This has cause me to buy a small 5lb bag, This has happened at very inconvenient times. Some of the workers just know the cash register and not the producsts, and they can be kind of rude. The owner is a good guy, but I question some of the others in the store.
