Going Downhill.
We go here all the time. It's not quite what it used to be, at least for me. The food is good but not great, whereas I used to think the food WAS great. Like I said, maybe that's just me.
Generally speaking, though, a trip to Outback is pretty fun. $65 for two if you don't hold back, which is a little on the pricey side, I suppose, but pretty much the standard at most of the major chains.
There are definitely much better places around. Guess that's the bottom line on the three-star rating.
Good tucker mates!. I have been eating here for years. The service is supurb, and the food is delcious! It is my favorite place to eat, drink, relax & be merry with my friends. I also hear it's a great place to work, have fun & make money...
Australian tchotchkes and brews give this quintessentially American restaurant a distinctive Down Under flavor..
In Short
Boomerangs, Aussie flags, kangaroo portraits and faux aboriginal art honor the homeland's wilderness, but Outback delivers a polished version of rusticity with varnished blond-wood booths with matching wainscoting and casually uniformed waitstaff. Besides more than a half-dozen cuts of steak, diners can pick from large-portioned entrees like ribs, chops and shrimp or chicken "on the barbie." The Bloomin' Onion, a large onion dipped in batter and deep-fried, is an appetizer with a following.
There are far better steaks at much cheaper prices elsewhere. VERY disappointing! For the price of the steaks, I expect PRIME cuts of Black Angus, not CHOICE cuts of what I can by at local super markets. The steaks are bland, under-seasoned and dry. The chicken dishes are obviously pre-cooked and held in warming trays as the meat was extremely dry and tough. I have visited Outback Franchises on two separate occasions with the same results each time and will not be going back. On the second visit I ordered a Manhattan from the bar and was presented with a glass of mostly ice and sweet vermouth, with a splash of whiskey and no garnish. On the first visit at another franchise I ordered a vodka martini straight up, dirty and received a vodka over ice with no garnish. The Blooming Onion was greasy and over-salted. The only good items were the brown bread and the veggies- steamed to perfection and still crispy. If you want a good steak and a good price, cruise over to Brann's on Six Mile just past Haggerty.
