The fries sizzle as much as the conversation at this cozy Livonia diner.. In Short
Grab a stool and belly up to the bar for a fast but tasty bite. Watch your elbows; there are no tables and barely enough room for the waitresses as they scoot along the tile floor. Salty comments from the regulars mix with dishes clanging and your crinkle-cut fries hitting the grease. Best of all, with a full meal comes a small bill.

amazing. bates' burgers are by far the best. my dad grew up in livonia and my grandma still lives there. when ever we're on the east side i always ask to get bates. it great to go there, because the food is so good, the place is so quaint, and my dad always has stories to tell about bates from when he was growing up, and it was open 24/7. its an experience in its own.

Mmm... Good. I've been going here for years just for the burgers. Finally I tried the breakfast and who would of guessed.... its just as tasty as a good ol' white wrapper bates burger

Bates Attack. Went to Ladywood HS, just around the corner from Bates...we used to hit Bates all during the school day....after graduation used to hit it at all hours of the night. Sadly, it is not open 24/7 but, when my daughter (now 18) was very little, I introduced her to Bates and ever since then, she knows the best way to get my attention by saying, "mom, I'm having a Bates attack -- can we go?" and we are out the door!! Best burgers ever!
