Damn good Michigan sushi
by CSMobileUser3
Sushi in Michigan, you may ask? Impossible! But yes, this is actually good sushi. I stopped there for a business lunch - excellent spicy tuna roll. Special rolls were well done and filling. Service was good, though not stellar. Worst part - presentation. The sushi looked as though it had been tossed on the plate. But you don't go there to look at the food, right? Overall, a very good sushi experience, and I'll surely be returning if I'm ever in the area again

I am half Japanese and have eaten authentic Japanese food for a great deal of my life. Ive tried a lot of Japanese restaurants but this is definitely mine and my fathers favorite (he is the Japanese parent). Their fish is always very fresh and you always get a free little octopus/seaweed salad appetizer at the sushi bar. The chefs are super friendly and interact with you the whole time. They have a tv with Japanese gameshows, cartoons and news playing the whole time. The service is great and all of the food is wonderful! Ive been going there for over 5 years now and have always had a great experience. The nigiri is mmmmmmm! If you love sushi, go to Izakaya!!
- Pros: Nigiri, Free appetizer, Customer Service, Food
- Cons: Sometimes loud/busy on weekends.
Still, by far, the best Japanese cuisine in my book!!!

I've been going to Izakaya SanPei ever since it opened. Sure staff have come and gone over the years, but my personal exerience has always been great! No one makes a better Nabaeyaki Udon than these folks! The Terriyaki Salmon is always perfect and the service (perhaps because they know me) has always been pleasant, timely and friendly....even on a busy night! Their salmon skin rolls are an old favorite and no one does it better. I've since moved and now live over an hour away, but I make the drive if I want the best!
