Saved big money on a total furnace replacement – My furnace was installed by Temperature Control in 1994, a MAV355 by Bryant. I began having problems after 12 years. I found out my model was recalled for a flaw in the heat exchanger and I was eigible to be one of the last to file a claim giving me a miniscule credit toward a new purchase.
Thinking I got taken for buying a bad furnace in the first place, I called a company with a big name, with lots of advertisments saying free estimate on repairs. After my estimate, they sent out a salesman with a slick deal including a three year maintenance contract. New furnace nearly $5000. Recall credit, zero (said I had to take it up with Bryant myself) Cost of repair estimate since I didn't buy the furnace they were selling $99. Not free. They wanted 50% payment immediately and would come in with the replacement in 3 days. I said I had to think about it.
I then called Temperature Control. The owner, Jerry came out the very same day, Gave me a price, exact same furnace, almost $2000 less, plus gave me a $500 credit for the bad furnace, and had it installed in 24 hours. They didn't ask for money up front. Jerry personally showed up during the installation. My new Bryant works like a champ. I'm glad I decided to trust Temperature Control.
Priceless! – My furnace was not installed by Temperature Control but the company that did install it (18 years ago) changed hands several years ago and the new owners were totally unreliable. So I started calling Temperature Control for repairs. They always respond promptly and do the repairs at a fair price. But recently they went above and beyond the call of duty.
About 1:00 AM on December 23rd, I realized it was getting a bit chilly in the house. I discovered that the furnace was just circulating air. The burners weren’t working. I’d just had a new igniter put in last winter so I figured it wasn’t that. I called Temperature Control’s all-night answering service and made an appointment for first thing when they opened later that morning.
The repairman arrived promptly and got it going again, but only on a “fingers-crossed” basis. Seems the heat exchanger was dying and it sometimes thought that the exhaust or the drain was clogged (even though they weren’t) and was tripping a safety switch. He showed me a button I could use to reset it. Given that the furnace was 18 years old it was more sensible to replace it than to replace only the dying heat exchanger.
I wanted another furnace of the same make and quality. Temperature Control didn’t have one in stock so they immediately sent an employee to get one from a distributor as the distributor wouldn’t be open on Christmas Eve. Meanwhile they sent an installation crew to my house to measure and make sure it would fit.
Christmas Eve morning the furnace and crew arrived at 8:00 AM and they had it installed in two and a half hours. Companies like Temperature Control are PRICELESS!!!
