Food could be better, interior looks worn out.

I took my husband to The Rhapsody last week, because he had been craving stuffed cabbage for a while. I read a review in the Free Press last week, so decided based on that to treat him and see what the food was like. I am not a big fan of ethnic restaurants that have old, worn out-looking dining rooms. This one did in my opinion, so my first impression was not that great. I realize the decorations are Hungarian, I have no problem with that, but this restaurant looks to me like it could use new carpeting and fresh paint on the walls. As I said, just my personal opinion.

On to the food: My husband ordered the dinner-sized portion of the stuffed cabbage with sausage and said it was delicious. He didn't even need a knife to cut through the cabbage, it was so tender. We also had a bread basket on the table. The bread, in our opinion was sort of stale and dry. He ordered the regular salad and the house dressing (vinegar and sugar) and said the dressing was 'interesting', but the salad was not distinguishing in any way, just lettuce and veggies.

I ordered the veal crepe. It came to me covered with WAY too much paprika gravy and the food was just warm. But, the veal was tender; the crepes didn't seem like 'French' crepes (thin), but just a little thicker than that, almost like a pancake, but tender, not tough. The veal itself didn't have much flavor until I sprinkled on some salt. I also ordered the cucumber and sour cream salad, which was VERY good, but serving was way too large for me and couldn't finish it; I decided to eat half and leave room for the veal crepe. Aside from all this, we ordered soft drinks and our waitress continuously gave us refills, which was nice. Service was very friendly and prompt.

I skipped dessert, but my husband ordered the walnut cake with european chocolate frosting. He said it was great and the european chocolate not as sweet as our American chocolate. He spent years in Germany in the military, so he is very familiar with the chocolate. He said the entire meal reminded him of his time in Europe.

In all, a couple of decent meals, could have more flavor to the veal crepe. We 'might' go back to try some other items on the menu, but it won't be a regular destination for us. Our bill came to about $32.00, so it's comparable to, say, Taco Especial or other ethnic restaurant's bill for two people.

No way!

Obvious 5 star review is given by them themselves. Our family is Hungarian we grew up eating all the favorites.

Over the last year they have had a serious decline in taste, flavor and quality. It's awful, either uncooked or cold. We tried going back hoping it was just a bad night, it wasn't.

Save your money for the dishes are all over $10 for the basic and over $15 for the favorites.

The reviews are old, and at that time they had a good chef he is gone and now the owners could care less, poor quality meat, old, freezer burned right down to dessert. Bad service, not professional, at their prices it should be the best.

I've found that el dorado on fort St has really Good papikash at a great price just ask for extra paprika, under $10.

Best hungarian food downriver!

Amazing ethnic hungarian food. Great family atmosphere. Every party i host is either in the gathoring hall in the resturaunt or catored by the Rhapsody. It is no doubt my favorite resturaunt.

• Pros: great food, atmosphere and service.
• Cons: there arent enough restaurants like it around.

While our service wasn't terrible, it wasn't great either. We waited at least 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged by our server. Although, I do agree with the previous review that the "bussers" do seem to work hard, I definitely CANNOT say much for the food. 4 of us recently visited this restaurant and we were greatly disappointed. My order was completely wrong and was sent back twice. And 2 of our 4 meals were barely lukewarm. This of course resulted in all 4 of us eating our meals at different times instead of enjoying a meal together, which is the whole point of having dinner out isn't it? Needless to say, I don't think we'll be visiting the Rhapsody anytime soon. And by the way, I too like a previous reviewer, noticed crumbs and/or garbage on the floor upon entering the restaurant. That's not too appealing!

Hungarian food at its finest! A Downriver institution

Amazing! it sounds like the above user, armand i think it was, just has a grudge because it's magnificent. i love the restaurant. The food was delectable. My personal favorites are the stuffed cabbage, goulash, and the potato noodles. All these are home made by the chefs, unlike some other restaurants.

Service is also outstanding, starting with the hostesses on down to the bussers. The hostesses great you with warm hello and lovely smiles. Then the waitresses bring you waters within a minute of you sitting down. They're very on top of their game. They offer up the daily specials to go along with the already magnificent menu that the owners Steve and Darlene have put in place. No ill word can be said of the bussers either. They're the most spectacular bussers i've seen around. Few places have bussers who help out the waitresses like those young men and women do over there. All in all great service.

You can't forget about the masterminds of this operation though, Steve and Darlene Szatmari. Their tireless dedication is shown through their workers. Steve can always be seen walking around and saying hello to his guests or giving his workers advice on how to accomplish the days task. He even gives a helping hand to his workers when it's really busy! What a guy!

The Rhapsody is a great restaurant and definitely a place to check out if you live in downriver.
