Information for Travelers. The Whitney closed on February 18, 2007 for a change of ownership/management and remodeling. If you are interested in visiting this beautiful mansion, please call first. It's my understanding that it will be re-open soon! When I was there, the atmosphere, service and food were excellent. It is truly the most romantic atmosphere ever and when my husband and I got home, the atmosphere continued and our son was conceived! Is that TMI????

truly amazing. I visited the Whitney on May 1, 2004 and had an experience unlike any other. The restaraunt itself if absolutely gorgeous. The service was the best I have ever had. The food was incredible... in fact, my boyfriend and I both got steak, and we were able to cut it with our butter knives. Everything was amazing and we could not have asked for anything better. This place is a must visit when going to Detroit. HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED!!!

Way over rated!. I went with my husband to Whitney to celebrate Valentine's Day. Other than the setting, nothing was impressive, at least not worth $250-300. The food was nothing special, while the service and the wine was terrible. As a matter of fact, Denny's provides you with a better explanation of the meal and their drinks!!!! The waitress couldn't tell us the difference between different sauces and the characteristics of different wines. When we told the waitress that the wine is bad, she tasted it and she told us that there was nothing wrong with it. We had to get the manager to taste the wine, who agreed with us.

Whoever thinks that the food and atmosphere at Whitneys' is worth the huge price tag, they need to eat at restaurants outside of Detroit. Actually the Whitney owners need to come up with better food, wine & service

NOT GOOD!. I took my wife to the Whitney to celebrate the New Year 2003. Probably the best historic environment I have dined at in the US. The service, like many so-called fine dining restaurants in the Midwest, is simply not there. Detroit is not what it was, gone are the patrons who could challenge the restaurant to rise to the occassion - that, or they are all in the suburbs now.

We stood around in the entrance for five minutes before being greeted - I could only ascribe it to rudeness. There was something wrong with the wine - I can't remember what. Our courses came either right on top of each other or after extended waits. We were served our main course right at the stroke of midnight - this for a 9PM seating that should have allowed us to be enjoying Champagne instead. No recourse given despite complaints.

Not worth the money.. I have been there three times over the past few year. I have no intention of ever going back.

A five year old would still be hungry after the tiny servings you are given. The only nice thing I can say about the Whitney is they have great atmosphere. The service has become quite disappointing too!

Wedding brunch. I hosted a wedding brunch at the Whitney in March for my daughter. We were very pleased with the food, the service, and the atmosphere. The staff went out of their way to make it a very memorable experience. It was definitely a great choice for a family celebration!

A Memorable Wedding Brunch. We had a small wedding brunch at the Whitney on Sunday March 16, 2003. It was absolutely wonderful! Our brunch took place in the Music room which was a perfect size for 30 people. The food and service were exceptional. The interior of the Whitney is exquisite and the staff made our day truly special. What a beautiful place for such a special day!

Brunch was divine!. This is a wonderful spot for a relaxing Sunday brunch - the food is good, the service is wonderful, and the beautiful surroundings can't be beat. Be advised that this is a leisurely affair, though -- it will take you almost two hours to get through the four delicious courses of food, so make sure you save this treat for a day on which you have time to relax and enjoy the experience.

Love it!. The Whitney has the best brunch ever! Beautiful surroundings, and great food. The Sunday brunch is better than the dinner.
