In Short – Old-school brass and a dark, wood interior make this classic downtown hangout the perfect place for professionals and the young and hip. Located on the ground floor of the Park Avenue Hotel and conveniently located behind the Second City Theater, the crowd is a mix of theatergoers, performers and local students. The leather couches, antique decor and high bar stools make it a place to be a regular or a new addition.

Good food, Worst Waitstaff

by chris599 at Citysearch

My group of 4 came in after a show at the Fillmore. We politely asked the waitress if the kitchen was still open because it was getting close to 10pm & if it wasnt we would've gladly gone somewhere else as we were starving & having been a waitress before I know what it's like to have customers come in when you're trying to shut down the kitchen. She seemed irritated and muttered "for a while longer". Ok, either it is or it isnt. Sorry. Again, we would've went somewhere else. Everyone around us was eating so we ordered - simple - 4 burgers and an order of cheese bread for an appetizer. She replies "I'll be bringing your bread out with your dinner" and walks away! Um..that's the whole point of an APPETIZER is so you can eat it beforehand. The best part was when she brought out the burgers is that she never even brought out the bread. Guess she figured we didnt deserve it. She also took our tables ashtray away, probably figured we were the only table in there who didnt deserve to smoke so we had to go snag one off another table. After observing her for the evening we realized she was more interested in the table of 10 behind us who was ordering shots at $100 a round. Big tippers I suppose. Our bill came to $42. I would've left her at least $10-$12 because I've been there, know it's a sucky job and feel for her even though she brought us one round of drinks & 4 burgers. But instead she got $3 because she cared more about what she thought would be the "big tippers" behind me. The restaurant was decent & the burgers we had were good. I think they need to have some training for their waitstaff on etiquette. I wont be back.

You Can Do Better

by lockjawdavis at Citysearch

Yeah, it's close to Comerica Park and the newly built Ford Field, but surely you can do better than this joint. The bar is stocked with once-hip regulars who now try way too hard to be cool. The waitstaff is roundly bad. Head to the Comet or the Park Henry across 1-75 for a taste of real Detroit.

  • Pros: It sometimes closes
  • Cons: It sometimes opens
