What People Are Saying About State Theatre Detroit

The Scene – The State Theatre has hosted three generations of audiences since opening in pre-Depression Detroit. In fact, it is among the nation's few old-time theaters that has remained in continuous operation since construction. The venue's opulent interior has been updated with a state-of-the-art video wall, high-tech sound and light equipment, and a dozen bars. The theater also features a three-level, 500-seat cabaret-style space that can accommodate an additional 3,000 people.

AVOID FOR CONCERTS!

by kel85 at Citysearch

EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTED- I have been to the state a number of times for club x and for concerts. Lastnight a friend and I went to see the Tragically Hip- we had tickets with seat numbers and rows on them-second row of the lower balcony. When we got up the the lower balcony to go to our seats- we showed a person who worked there our ticket and he informed us it was 'general admission -find your own seat"....We were shocked- we found a seat about 20 rows BACK from where we were supposed to be sitting. Into the show all of a sudden the people that worked there started checking seats and rows and started kicking people out of the 'general admission seats'.....It happened behind us and when a girl asked about it all the guy said was 'take it up with management'..NICE.....Sooo very dissapointed in the state- I will definately think twice before attending another concert there-I guess when you go on the internet and order tickets and look at the seating chart BEFORE you buy them, that doesnt matter there........

The State of Affairs is all good...

by RayAnthony at Citysearch

Compared to the over-priced, over-hyped "Space" your best value for the club scene. Plenty of room to move and to DANCE. The drinks are priced accordingly like any bar does trying to keep the bills paid. (If you want cheap drinks STAY HOME!) The bouncers are, well, hmmmmmm? Bouncers! They cant help the fact they are big stupid animals. The place has character unlike Space who has a more money than brains budget to get unsuspecting yups from the burbs who play dress-up for the night and try to drop names of Red Wing players in futile attempts of getting somewhere with the rude staff and even bigger, stupider lunk head bouncers.

  • Pros: It's not like Space, Better than Space, It's not Space

Out of State

by cypno1 at Citysearch

This bar had a great sound for live music. I went to see a band (spacecamp) and they sounded awesome. They had a great huge bar and enough room for everybody. The only thing that I didn't like is that is did not have air conditioning.

  • Pros: Good Parking, Great location
  • Cons: No Air Conditioning

Best Ever!

The State Theatre has the best sound in the area. Every band sounds good there. Smaller venues are always better...
