What People Are Saying About Omni Detroit Hotel

In Short – This attractive, modern downtown property makes the most of one of the city's greatest untapped pleasures--its river, which separates the U.S. from Canada. The hotel not only overlooks the waterfront but boasts an outdoor cafe that literally hangs over the water. The Omni's guest rooms are exceptionally large and jammed with amenities, including terry cloth robes and hair dryers. The hotel also houses Michigan's only USCA-approved croquet court.
dark, dirty, dingy, depressing!

It's remarkable that this is classified as a four star hotel. Here's a tip: just because you have mandatory (expensive) valet parking doesn't make you a four star hotel. Walking in, the hotel looked a little dirty; when we walked to the concierge, two employees were in a conversation and told us to wait, when they were done talking we gave them the reservation and told we weren't able to check in on time (and to come back in an hour). All of this could have been easily forgotten about, but the bad stuff kept coming. The cable wasn't working, no ice machines on our floor, no vending machines anywhere, the 'bar' was small and dingy, and the staff was just unfriendly in general (except the valet - they were really nice). I would not stay here again.
- Pros: nice view
- Cons: too many to mention in one line
Doesn't belong on the best of anything list. Maybe the average of everything...

This hotel is ok. Nothing exceptional and it has more negatives than positives. I don't know how it ended up on the 2008 Best Detroit Hotel Pools lists because it doesn't even have a pool. Parking is forced valet, no alternative, but for safety's sake, it's probably a good idea.
Don't stay here if you are a walker, unless you want to go one of about 4 restaurants within walking distance.
Avoid on Friday nights Belle Isle.

I was out for my brother's dauther's wedding and Comfort, historic charm and river views ARE NOT among the reasons to stay at this warehouse district hotel. Rooms are very dark, restaurant is in the basement ... very drab! WI-FI does not work! Not safe to walk outside DAY or NIGHT!!! The worst of the Omni Hotel chain!!! Need a car or taxi to get around Detroit. Would not RECOMMEND this hotel at all! This was our first and last time staying at this hotel!
To enjoy your stay go to the Grosse Points for dining and shopping.
