Definitely A Place to Stay Out Of (Now). It used to be an "American" blues bar where respectable people came in and listened to blues. Now it is owned by Albanians and it is basically an outlet for the Albanians living in the surrounding area. After the bar changed hands I have watched too many fights break out in the bar. In some of the fights people were gravely injured. Albanians are probably one of the most hot headed, uncivilized, mentally unstable and vicious people one might ever meet. If the post sounds like a diatribe towards a particular group of people, I apologize as it is not. It sounds like so because nothing good can be said of these people except that they probably aren't that dangerous when sober. But in an alcohol infused environment it is best to not be in that kind of bar scene if you are somebody who would want to stay away from any form of violence. Thanks.
a friendly place. me and my husband had not been in there since it was the attic bar, drinking out of mason jars which was real cool $1 beers coldest u could find, bartender was real nice..now it is a lot different and also a good place to go we spent redwings games there.first time back had a blast on tuesday beer and shots are were not hurting the wallet...very clean, friendly patons ,bartenders even bought us rounds ....love that place.....
Friendly blues juke joint with large selection of eclectic brews..
In Short
Behind the humble facade of the Attic Bar lies a gem of authentic Detroit. Most nights, patrons come to hear timeless blues riffs issue from a makeshift stage as they sit at cloistered tables. A diverse crowd comes for the music and sometimes the bar even books some rock and rap. If the tunes don't cut it, never fear, as the Attic stocks more than a 100 unusual microbrews to enliven the evening.
Thought I was in Clarksdale, MS.
On my first trip to Detroit (June 2006), I hunted this place down and it is worth the trip....IF you're looking for an authentic blues juke joint. It reminded me of the joints down in Mississippi, complete with dirty bathroom (they had some sort of police tape around the toilet..I hope as a joke) and a guy drinking his beer from a mason jar. Unfortunately for me, there was no band that night, but I could tell that this place could really get going.
I had a nice conversation with the bartender/manager?/band booker and he really knows his stuff about blues musicians. Very friendly folks there and if I lived in Detroit, I'd be a regular.
The only problem for this out of towner was finding the place. I had the best mapquest directions in the world, but there are virtually NO street signs in that neighborhood.
Forget the foo-foo blues place downtown, head to The Attick!
