Excellent food. Worth the trip..
I've been dining here for 35 years and have had only one "questionable" experience. It was probably 25 years ago & we had a big party. (more than 10 people) The tip was automatically added to the bill (15%) without anyone informing us this would happen. We would have tipped alot more but figured since we were forced into what is normally an elective decision we left without leaving a tip at all. Just what was added to the bill. The food is FABULOUS! Always has been. The service is great. It's a little noisy at times but the experience is worth it. We've had to wait for a table at times but that just tells me the food there is worth it. If it wasn't any good, people would not keep going back! Be sure to try the Margaritas. The Golden Margarita is OUTSTANDING & well worth the price. Always had friendly service & ample parking.

DONT GO WITH KIDS.
I have always loved Mexican Village since I was a child... Until recently were told by the Hostess Lucella that my 3 year old son was being too disruptive(if you call dropping a spoon accidentally... disruptive). She then suggested that we take our son and leave. I have never been so publicly embarrassed. So i left with out paying and only had eaten 1/4 of my meal. I WILL NEVER GO BACK

Worst experience ever - I felt discriminated against.
I have frequented Mexican Village since I was a child but tonight, at 5pm, we were told by the Hostess Lucella that our 18 month old daughter got too much food on the floor - I explained that we always tip at least 50% and give the bus boy $20 on each visit - she said she didn't care. I further explained that I also have had parties for over 100 people at their restaurant - to no avail. She then suggested that we take our child and leave - So we did. I felt discriminated against and will never return and would recommend all to abandon this restaurant for others - I was very disappointed

very fresh.
The food was great and very fresh. A friendly atmosphere with generous portions and very cheap. It's the best mexican restaurant ever.

Best So far.
In the past summer I have gone to three Mexican Restaurants on Bagley for lunch. I have ordered the exact
lunch from all three. In my opinion, the Village beats X's and Town hands down. The ingredients of the
meal seemed more fresh and much tastier. Very eager waitstaff that delivered our meal fast and hot.
All around friendly staff and very comfortable surroundings.
I have a few more restaurants to try, but the Village is the best so far.

Best Mexican EVER!.
I can't even begin to describe how much I love this place. Every time my sister comes in from town from college we go, birthdays we go, weekends when we just want some food we go. I have only been there once later on the weekend were we had to wait to be seated. Salsa is amazing and you seriously could drink it. My favorite menu item is the Chicken Chimi and if you try it, ask to have cheese melted on top, it makes it even better. You can get some salsa and chips to take home, however if you don't eat the chips warm they just don't taste as good so I would just get some chips from the store. On birthdays they'll sing and give you a free fried ice-cream. There's also one in Utica that's the same restaurant but you have to go the Detroit one once.

Editorial Review.
Detroit's first Mexican restaurant sports Spanish mission-style decor and a massive menu of specialties from south of the border.

Best Mexican in Mexicantown!.
Love the food here. My husband and I both agree that it beats all of the other restaurants in Mexicantown. We both like that the food isn't heavy and covered in oil, like so many of the other restaurants in the area. The combination (made all chicken) is great, and with a few ala carte items is more than enough to share. It's a bit off the beaten path, but well worth it. Lighted parking with attendant (free for customers). Great prices as well.

AWESOME.
I grew up in Michigan and have beeng oing to the Mexican Village since I was a kid 40 years ago. I have since moved to Florida and still can't wait to get back to Detroit to see the Tigers play and go to the Mexican Village. Love their chicken tacos and guidsado (?) de res. I highly recommend it!
