Editorial Review for Xochimilco Restaurant – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
With a mix of neighborhood regulars and suburban commuters, the traditional Mexican decor makes fora festive and comfortable atmosphere at Xochimilco (pronounced so-she-MIL-co). Along with Mexican-American fare including tacos, chimichangas and burritos, there is also a "Favorites of Mexico" portion of the menu that features less familiar traditional Mexican dishes such as nopalitos (cactus cooked with eggs, onions, green peppers and spices).

Our family of 5 (two adults, three kids) went to Xochimilco on a Saturday night for dinner. We ordered three main dishes (my 10 year old eats more than a kid’s meal) and two kids meals. My wife and I shared a drink from the bar. We ate "upstairs." Generally, we enjoyed ourselves. Environment: There have been some comments about it being dark, musky, and even unclean. I would have to disagree with those comments. I never felt like the food or area was unclean and the "mood" of the room wasn't dark and musky. It was busy, active, and generally very upbeat. Quality: The food was good. Nothing to write home about, but filling. Our kids were happy, although their food was nothing like Taco Bell. The warm chips and salsa was a great starter, I'd have to say they were the bright spot of the meal. Price: I've read a lot of comments about the food being “very cheap.” I'd have to say, at least for dinner, that was a bit over stated. Our total bill was $42.00, not expensive, but far from cheap. But their drinks are reasonable. Time and Service: We ate early for dinner, around 5 p.m. We had to wait 20 minutes which wasn't too long. When we left around 6:30, there was a huge line waiting. They offer 30 minute call ahead seating; I would suggest using that service if you're coming during the busy times. The food came out faster than we expected. We ordered our drinks and food together, and got our food faster than the drinks! We had a new waiter so I'll excuse some of the poor service. Our youngest spilled a drink and I was kindly given the rag to clean it up. He didn't check back with us very often, but it was pretty busy. I'd have to say the service was the low spot of the dinner. Kid Friendly: The kid meals were a good price and the amount of food in them was more than they could eat. They didn't have anything to color with, so there wasn't much from them to do. Overall: Good food, we may go again, but not a family favorite.
Pros: Drinks, kids meals, & warm chips and salsa.
Cons: Long wait during busy times, service, & average food.

I have been going here since I was 12 and I'm now 31 and it's still my all time favorite Mexican food. Service is quick, Food is awsome, and the drinks......if you're getting a mixed drink let's just say make sure to not be driving home. Would be better to have it in a better area of the city but I will never stop going here.
Pros: Service, food, and drinks
Cons: neighborhood
