YUM. XOCHIMILCO is my all time favorite mexican restaurant. I can barely say the name but that doesn't matter...The food is awesome (their wet burrito is my favorite), resonable in price, and the service is quick. I also am a big fan of their tastey margaritas.
Good Mexican/Latino food and family-friendly!. Several bars located within the two story restaurant. The slightly cramped seating doesn't detract from the good food and overall fun atmosphere.
Motowns Best Mexican. Its dirt cheap and has really great food. the fajitas are great, a huge serving, but great. The salsas good the tortillas are good the steak in the fajitas was great. it was better than any mexican food ive had in any other city except maybe San Antonio.
We Got Sick!. We placed a huge order for my office - tasted good going down, but the next day, 9 employees with dia rhea and 2 out sick! Nasty!
Good food terrible customer service. I called in a carryout following a long workday. The person taking the order English wasn't the best & the Mgr Tony took the phone. We confirmed the meat choice as Ground Beef (regular) not Chunky Beef (look like brown chunky tuna). Long story short, when I got home I was shocked to see the order was wrong after we discussed and confirmed it. I called back spoke with Tony the manager, explained to him the situation. He was rude and nasty from the start and stated that I got what I ordered and I needed to bring it back. Flabbergasted by his demeanor, I asked him if he had me mixed up with someone else maybe having a bad day (perplexed by his behavior). Only for him to reiterate what he said in same nasty tone. I explained to him that I lived to far to drive back for a$10 meal but I would gladly return 100% of the meal tomorrow when I came that way for work. Contrary to the truth, he said again "You got what you ordered, either bring it back now or forget it.? I asked him was business so good that this is now how they treat customers...He then hung the phone up in my face. I later called back an spoke with the lady I initially spoke with earlier to confirm the meat requested and unaware of what was going on she said yeah the ground beef (which she refers to also as Regular) which confirmed my either he wrote it wrong (probably) or the kitchen made an error, however, I still cannot understand what happened to make him act so irrational. I told him I was coming there before he became manager there, my co-worker and I were planning an event there to celebrate a promotion I just received, but NO MORE they have no respect for there customers!
Good food but.... I've been going to Xochi's for about 20 years... until recently when I saw an insect crawling on the wall. I was disgusted and so upset because I truly loved that restaurant for so many years...and now I can't even stomach going in there. In the past, friends have told me that they too have seen insects there... but as far as I was concerned, out of sight out of mind... until I experienced it for myself... I'm sorry if I've ruined it for anyone else now :(
Not bad for a family dinner out.
Our family of 5 (two adults, three kids) went to Xochimilco on a Saturday night for dinner. We ordered three main dishes (my 10 year old eats more than a kid?s meal) and two kids meals. My wife and I shared a drink from the bar. We ate "upstairs." Generally, we enjoyed ourselves.
Environment: There have been some comments about it being dark, musky, and even unclean. I would have to disagree with those comments. I never felt like the food or area was unclean and the "mood" of the room wasn't dark and musky. It was busy, active, and generally very upbeat.
Quality: The food was good. Nothing to write home about, but filling. Our kids were happy, although their food was nothing like Taco Bell. The warm chips and salsa was a great starter, I'd have to say they were the bright spot of the meal.
Price: I've read a lot of comments about the food being ?very cheap.? I'd have to say, at least for dinner, that was a bit over stated. Our total bill was $42.00, not expensive, but far from cheap. But their drinks are reasonable.
Time and Service: We ate early for dinner, around 5 p.m. We had to wait 20 minutes which wasn't too long. When we left around 6:30, there was a huge line waiting. They offer 30 minute call ahead seating; I would suggest using that service if you're coming during the busy times. The food came out faster than we expected. We ordered our drinks and food together, and got our food faster than the drinks! We had a new waiter so I'll excuse some of the poor service. Our youngest spilled a drink and I was kindly given the rag to clean it up. He didn't check back with us very often, but it was pretty busy. I'd have to say the service was the low spot of the dinner.
Kid Friendly: The kid meals were a good price and the amount of food in them was more than they could eat. They didn't have anything to color with, so there wasn't much from them to do.
Overall: Good food, we may go again, but not a family favorite.
Absolutely the best ever!!. I have been going here since I was 12 and I'm now 31 and it's still my all time favorite Mexican food. Service is quick, Food is awsome, and the drinks......if you're getting a mixed drink let's just say make sure to not be driving home. Would be better to have it in a better area of the city but I will never stop going here.
Xochi's rules!. xochi's has been my favorite detroit eatery for over 20 years! always get the "flaming cheese" it is wonderful. the chips and salsa are the finest anywhere (mild salsa is the best!) much of the same staff has been there for decades and tthey are always hospitable. live in maine now and still dash to xochi's whenever i am near detroit!
Eh...wasn't impressed. Once at work I was invited to go to "Mexican Village" which to those that know of the place, there's actually a rest. called Mexican Village on Bagley on the other side of the expressway from this place. When we arrived I tried to give it a chance, I really did. We went and sat upstairs and I thought the place smelt horrible, I couldn't pin-point the smell but it was musty. Yuck. The food was okay but not even close to Mexican Village, I would never go again when I know the heaven sent Mexican food is just across the expressway.
