Classic, delicious Italian dining at a hidden gem in a corner of the industrial rough..
In Short
A favorite stop for executives and diners in the know, Giovanni's is a Detroit staple, and the real deal: A simple, homey atmosphere complete with family photos on the wall and waiters in vests and bowties. Giovanni's homemade pasta is exceptionally fresh, and the menu emphasizes classics like lightly battered fried calamari and zesty sausage sauteed with onions and peppers. The homemade balsamic-honey salad dressing adds a unique tang to any leafy entree.
OH MY GOD!!!!!!. When I think of the very very very best restaurant in Michigan, inevitably, I think of Giovanni's. Everything, from the service to the bread to the salads are to die for. I get a Chicken dish with a creamy rosemary mushroom sauce that is so good my mouth waters just thinking about it. And their pasta (homemade and soooo tender) is like nothing else I have every had. If you like Italian, you will LOVE Giovanni's.
I remember when. This used to be a great spot. It has become very overpriced and overrated, and it has lost the customers that built its reputation.
What A Big Let Down.
After Seeing This Was The Number One Italian Restaurant In The City Search Polls Me
And My Girlfriend Along With Her 12 Year Daughter Decided To Give Giovanni's A Try.
We Went There For Lunch. We Were Seated Promptly And Drinks And Bread Were
Brought To Us Promptly. Then It Was Downhill From There The Soups And Salad Were
Very Average Then For The Main Course The 3 Pasta Dishes The Portions Were Very
Small And Overpriced My Girlfriend Tried Her Dish And Did Not Like It I Ended Up
Taking Her Dish Home. Her Daughter Ate Her Dish And Said It Was Okay And Me I Ate
My Dish And Found It To Be A Very Avarage Pasta Dish So Over All It Was A Big Let
Down For Everyone Especially Since We Drove From St Clair Shores In My Over Opinion
Its Not Worth The Drive.
World's Best Italian. I have travel to many lands and eaten at the best of restaurants but GIOVANNI'S IS THE BEST ITALIAN I have ever eaten. All the pasta is as fresh as can be (made homemade) and the sauces are to die for. The owners Fran & Randy make you feel like your at home. I LOVE THIS PLACE !!! Try it you love it!!
A little bit of Italy. My wife and I dine there quite often. The food is exceptional and the atmoshpere is awesome. The owners go out of their way to ensure that every guest's experience is something to remember. My wife even had her wedding shower in the wine room, and said it was the absolute most memorable experience. The food, the enviroment and the staff make this our favorite place to dine.
A Diamond in the Rough. The little gem in Southwest Detroit, that sits on Oakwood, illuminates ambiance and character. The owner Francias Truant creates a warm and inviting atmoshpere for each and every individual that crosses through her door. The exsquisite taste and presentation of the food will keep customers coming back for more.
Giovanni's. My husband and I stumbled upon this restaurant 5 years ago when we were first dating and we have been going back ever since. It is has a romantic atmosphere with fabulous italian food and this is coming from one who was raised with italian cooking. To topped it all off, the service has always been at it's best. We have brought our best of friends there to enjoy.
Best Italian in Detroit. Giovanni's is simply the best Italian in the city. We had heard many things about this place but had never been there. It is definately a destination .... the neighborhood is lacking but the food is worth the trip and more. The pasta was outstanding and the service made you feel at home. In fact, the owner stopped by several times to tell us about the food and the history. I have always thought that Detroit lacked at good Italian restaurants.... my view has changed. This restaurant is as good as anywhere I have been.
Great Place for a first class meal.
This is one of the great Italian resturants.
It is located in an industrial area, and does not look like much from the outside. Inside, it is incredible.
It has the atmosphere that makes you think Joe Pescei and Ray Liotta are in the back room "You think I'm funny?"
It is definitly the place to go for that upscale evening.
On the down side, the prices are on the high side. I can pay more for steak and veal etc.. but pasta only dishes at $20 is out of line. However, the Pasta is magic.
I guess you have to pay for cooking talent, and the food is definitly top shelf.
