42.400355 -83.259415 View WebsiteThere's more to Scotty's than the fish. I've been eating at this Brightmoore favorite for 0ver 45 years. This is not just a place to come and enjoy an excellent lunch or dinner. This place is the rock of an otherwise deteriorating neighborhood. Harry the current owner and employee for about 46 years is a true saint. He helps out people in the neighborhood by putting roofs, porches or anything the less fortunate may need. Hell if a stray dog or cat comes around Scotty's it will leave with a full stomach. This is just part of the real story of Scotty's and their people.
Best fish and chips in town!.
The fish and chips are excellent! Deep fried, crispy, not greasy. I've tried the shrimp and smelt too, but think the fish and chips are the best thing on the menu! The tartar sauce is homemade, and the homemade coleslaw is yummy too. They also give you a gigantic dinner roll, but I usually skip it -- no sense in wasting valuable stomach room!
The place hasn't changed much since the '50s, which is a good thing. The staff have been there forever, and will recognize you after you've been in a few times. The neighborhood can be a bit dodgy, but I've never had any problems and there is usually somebody guarding the parking area on Friday night.
Wow! Fantastic Fish & Chips.
This is an amazing little find, a neighborhood secret since 1950. Think about how difficult it is to keep a restaurant open for nearly 60 years. Think about the changes in the city during that time. Now imagine how consistently great your food must be to make that happen.
Scotty Simpson's is a fantastic fry dive. The menu is simple, relatively inexpensive, and a great value. The fish is outstanding, as are the onion rings. And the apple pie tastes like apples: not sugar, not cinnamon, but apples. Novel concept--food that actually tastes like what it's made of.
No pretension, artifice, or celebrity chefs here. Just perfectly-cooked food, served in an atmosphere that encourages conversation between tables.
Try it once, and you'll be hooked.
