Simply the best. Whether you are in Downtown Detroit for a Tigers, Red Wings or Lions game, or at the Auto Show or whatever, you have to stop at Lafayette Coney Island. They do coney dogs and they do it better than anybody else. They're not on the Food Network and Travel Channel all the time for no reason. The place is a Detroit Landmark. People on here are complaining about the decor? Dude, it's an old place that has character! The waiters aren't the friendliest guys in the world but that is the farthest thing from my mind when I'm there. It's all about the coney dogs man. World leaders eat coney dogs at this place. Famous athletes make it a point to eat here. You come in, order your food and drink and it's at your table in a few minutes, 5 minutes at most if it's PACKED. Me, personally, I order a coke, coney with everything and a slice of apple pie every time. It gets better every time I go there, which is basically whenever I'm downtown. Do yourself a favor and go there. Order a coney or two with everything. If you didn't know, these hot dogs are to be eaten with a fork because they're loaded with chili. And when I say chili, I mean the best coney dog chili in the world.

Lafayette Coney Island. Absolutely the best coney in Detroit. The sealer is the chili, get a good whiff and you nose will involuntarily quiver in anticipation. I can't be in the area without getting a dog. Love when I see Lafayette full of Red Wing fans. Bar none this is the best!

the best usually. this place is awesome usually lol every once in a while you might catch a waiter in a bad mood but they are always there and its to be expected if you know that working in a restaraunt myself i know sometimes waiters have bad days so to the people saying there waiter was moody it happens and with how busy they are its understandable with that being said it is almost always the best service and real fast foods always hot and fresh the bathroom is awesome and the waiters can show you some cool things lol and chili cheese frys are always a must with onions added decently priced also and a great atmosphere with everyone talking to everyone they actually remember our names and all the other "usuals" names lol and everytime you go in they will all yell and greet you and ive never seen a place where every waiter can carry literally atleast 15 plates at once with no tray overall usually an incredibly great place the only reason its 4 not 5 stars is every once in a while the moody staff but almost never

Fun Time. I went to Lafayette Coney Island for the first time in December, 2009 with a friend who grew up in Detroit and who just loves this place. I grew up in Brooklyn, NY and spent many summer days enjoying hot dogs by the ocean at Nathan's in the "real" Coney Island. I love places that are down-to-earth and not full of themselves. This place is just such a place and it made me laugh and smile to see my friend's face come alive as if she was a child again as she was when she enjoyed the chili dogs here years ago. As for myself, I found the dogs to be just ok, sloppy but fun to eat. The service was good and the waiter was happy to know we had traveled so far (from NY) to visit this fun place.
