In Short – Gaudy orange formica tables and matching chairs conjure images of '70s style. This place isn't about frills, it's about giving people simple choices for lunch or dinner during the rush of a business day, and providing a late-night stop to complete an evening of fun in the downtown area. Coney-inspired dishes are the only choices here. The traditional Coney dog is made with mustard and onions. Chili, hamburgers and chili dogs come with fries.

Best chili cheese fries in the world....like Detroit itself its a hardworking working restaurant where coneys are manufactured with assembly line quality and effeciency...When making a trip your missing out If you don't see the toothpick trick or not making a trip down to the bathroom

Bad Service!

I have to suspect that these four- and five-star reviews are based more on nostalgia and late-night drunken visits than they are based on the quality of this place.
Our service was so bad, we were laughing. It's one thing to be "no frills;" I can appreciate that if it's done in a charming and intentional way. But there's a line between that and just plain rudeness. The waiter practically threw our drinks at us and never came back after he brought the food. Just preposterous. And we wanted more food!
Of course I don't expect anyone to have a similar experience; I'm not suggesting it's "always" like that (though maybe it is). Still, I can't write a review without mentioning it.
Dogs we ordered were great, but, really, have you ever had a bad coney? Fries were cold and seemed like they would have been average at best even if they were hot.
I won't be going back.

Every detroit father should make this coney his son's/daughter's first. From the simplistic decor to the fast, friendly service Lafayette Coney is a detroit icon that reigns over all others. Best dogs, best chili, the best. I wish i was eating one right now!
- Pros: uber-awsome coney dogs
- Cons: has to share the block with infearior coney dog operation.
