In Short – Immigrants established this community in the 1830s, but contrary to popular belief, the founders weren't of Greek origin; they were German. The Greektown Casino offers something the other two casinos don't: a neighborhood. The two-block stretch offers bars and restaurants ranging from the 24-hour Plaka Cafe to the full-of-tradition Old Shillelagh Irish Club. For those with a sweet tooth, the Astoria Pastry Shop has irresistible desserts.
