Did Not Live Up To Expectations.
I was sorely disappointed with the customer service at the Detroit location and now understand why we were the only two customers in the store.
We bought an assortment of items to take to my parents house and I bought one item for myself. I bought one of the caramel apples - even though it was a little pricey I thought it looked very good. Too bad I will never know.
The girls who were more focused on their conversation then boxing up our order put the caramel apple in the same box with the other items. To do so, they laid it on it's side. So my caramel apple was covered in assorted things that became stuck to it (such as sprinkles, paper wrapper from other items, chocolate, etc). I tried pulling the paper and other things off of my plain caramel apple but that pulled the caramel off and left it a wreck. Needless to say, that was $5 down the drain.
Everyone else enjoyed their items but I was very, very disappointed with my experience. I think they need to invest more in customer service training if they want to keep the store packed with customers.
Amazing!. I LOVE Astoria! Anything you choose there is absolutely going to be wonderful. From cakes to tortes to pastries to ice cream to coffee they do it all wonderfully. Gotta love their Tiger Tails!
Great freakin pastry shop. The 1st time i came here it was a blizzard- me and some friends decided to come here-i had their white chocolate torte-oh god!! Its so good! I mean come on-its a pastry shop-every thing is good-its part of the reason why i moved to downtown detroit
It's sooo good!. Astoria Pastry Shop is one of the best. All of their pastries and other sweets are soo good. I have never been disappointed with any of their food items. From ice cream to cakes...it's all good. As a matter of a fact, I should go there tomorrow.
Greektown mainstay caters to the sweetest tooth..
In Short
A gleaming counter of all things confectionary and decadent, Astoria has enjoyed a firm identity in both Detroit's Greektown neighborhood and the very trendy and popular Royal Oak. Clean and sharp inside with a handful of tables, Astoria is king of Greek specialties, especially its baklava, custer rolls and choureki (sweet egg bread). Triple-layer torts, specialty cheesecakes and rich cookies are benchmarks here.
Best baklava I've ever eaten!!. My husband retired last June and his partner brought 200 pcs. of baklava from Detroit to Oscoda MI for the celebration. It was the hit of the party!! Everyone at the party agreed (over 100 connoisseurs of world-wide fine food!), this was by far the best baklava we had ever eaten!! Since baklava is my daughters favorite dessert and she is not only having a milestone birthday AND graduating from college, we wanted to have some sent to her as a congratulations gift. Unfortunately, Astoria Pastry doesn't ship! Hope they reconsider in the near future. Meantime, all of our waistlines thank you! You're a 10+ in our book...just get some mail order.
great pastry shop in the heart of greektown. I didn't find the Astoria Pastry Shop priced that bad, considering it's smack dab in the middle of Greektown, downtown Detroit's tourist district. They're always packed, but service is very prompt and usually very friendly. They're a little overpriced, but that's to be expected in Greektown - their desserts are delicious!
