In Short – Two dozen passenger airlines service Detroit Metro, including Northwest Airlines, which uses it as a hub for its domestic routes and international flights. In early 2002, DTW opened the new McNamara terminal--a state-of-the art concourse boasting 97 gates, 90 E-ticket kiosks, and nearly 80 shops and retaurants. Also added were an 11,000-space parking garage and a second main entrance road to ease traffic congestion on I-94.
Nice Terminal, Wrong Airline
by jfoxwi
Everytime I fly Northwest, it seems that I have to go through Detroit on one leg of the trip. Nice new terminal but the fact is, is that it is still Northwest and it is still Detroit. I have never left Detroit on-time and the people that work at DTW are not as helpful as other hub airports. Imagine having your NW flight cancelled...then being told that you could catch the other airlines flight you have to go to the old terminal and that can take half an hour! No Way!
A Monorail to Get to Gates?
by jthmsd
Possibly the worst designed airport in the US. If you end up at the far end of Terminal A (McNamara) you can either hoof it for a 1/2 mile or wait for the indoor monorail. Terminal B has poor directions to Baggage, Ground Transport, etc. Restaurants are few and lack quality. The stores are limited. You can't even by a DVD or CD there.

I always fly through Detroit if at all possible. The new facilities are wonderful.
