Editorial Review for Joe's Crab Shack – by Citysearch Staff

In Short
Admittedly kitschy, unavoidably noisy, this Red Lobster for rug rats is like an oversized seaside shanty awash in oceanic memorabilia--fishing nets, souvenir trinkets, plastic flotsam and jetsam. Staffed with a lively crew of G-rated table-dancing servers, the family-friendly chain anchors its menu in all things crab: Crab balls, crab cakes, crab dip, crab gumbo. Finicky children opt for corndogs or hamburgers; shellfish-phobic adults dine on rib eye steak or mesquite-grilled chicken.

My husband and I decided to try this kitschy looking restaurant for dinner tonight. I ordered the fried shrimp which arrived warm on a bed of french fries, to me it tasted like something you would throw in the oven from home. Nothing exciting about it. My husband's dinner was not great either. We both agreed that nothing was crispy, it was like they had it sitting under a heat lamp. They were not busy when we went so they didn't exactly have an excuse for the poor food quality. The waitstaff was friendly but that was about all.

Pros: plenty of parking

Cons: heat lamp food

Joe's offers big portions and reasonable prices plus friendly service and outdoor dining. I had penne pasta with shrimp and spicy sauce; very good! The portions were so big, I didn't have room for dessert. Check out the souvenir shop with witty, silly sayings on t-shirts; I wish the size selection had been larger, though. We only had lunch here, and the crowd was small, but I hear it can get very busy in the evenings. We had lots of fun here.

Pros: friendly staff, big portions, gift shop!
