Belle Isle is a beautiful parl located on its own island between Detroit and Windsor. From what I understand the park suffered it's historical greatness at the hands of the City's mayor and council. It is definitely worth seeing. The island itself is glorious. As one drives around it is possible to visualize what the park may have looked like in its glory days. Almost like something out of a movie. But now the parks buildings, zoo, aquarium, and other amenities are either shut down or dilapidated to the point of no return. Never the less it is a gorgeous island worth visiting.

From all accounts, Belle Isle Park was a truly magnificent place. Now all that remains is a ghost town feeling. One can go and see all the magnificent structures that held attractions like the Zoo and the Aquarium, but now sit abandoned and decaying.

Pros: view of Windsor, not crowded, architecture

Cons: empty, deserted, nothing to do

Belle Isle is one of the most beautiful spots in Detroit that you can take your kids for fun and to experience nature. Its a wonderful place to sit with your mate for a relaxing and romantic outing, its perfect for family gatherings ,if you listen to negative reveiws and don't take advantage of Belle Isle it will really be your own loss.

Pros: waterfront , Beach, playscape

I grew up at Belle Isle Park. Every Saturday my mom would take us( me, my brother and our friends) to Belle Isle. We would follow the nature trail, swim at the beach, ride the horses, visit the aquarium, fish or just play in the grass. I love Belle Isle. Now my 3 year old son is growing up at Belle Isle. I think that anyone not visiting Belle Isle is missing out on something SPECIAL. And for those who are too "good" to swim at Belle Isle, please know that the same governing agencies patrol our water as Metro, Kinsington etc. Belle Isle Beach has never been shut down. NEVER speak against MY park. I LOVE BELLE ISLE.

Pros: something for everyon, FREE

the memories of growing up a few miles from the park, skating on the canals that wind through the Island, visiting the Conservatory ($1.00) and the aquarium, are memories I'll cherish forever. I try to return once a year to see the flowers in bloom, but the park isn't what it once was..

While not in its heyday right now the park is still beautiful and provides a respite in the middle of the city. During the summer there are so many things going on. The only problem is that its pretty easy to get lost after you get over the bridge
