JENNY is the greatest! I had to laugh when I read a previous post about a girl who moved to Washington, D.C. and flies home to see her family AND Jenny every time she needs her hair done- because I DO TOO! I have been living in D.C. for 10 months and have flown back (it'll be 3 times next week) to have her do my hair. It is worth the $150 flight and $125 to get my hair done by someone I trust as much as Jenny. I have been seeing her for 4 years and no one can cut, color, and style quite like her. If you're sensitive, maybe Jenny isn't for you. She is blunt and honest (she'll tell you if something looks bad). But you're also seeing a "shear genius." Take her advice!! Parking is never a problem. Also, if you tell someone your meter is running out, they will go put quarters in it for you- THEIR quarters. The only thing I do not like about this salon is sometimes feeling completely rushed. Some of the assistants are annoying and loud...and spend 90% of the time looking at themselves in the mirror and talking about themselves. All in all Alex Emilio gets an A+!

Pros: All stylists are GREAT, value for $, accomodating staff

Cons: Annoying assistants, Sometimes appointments start 15-20 minutes behind

After reading some of the reviews on Citysearch, I decided to book an app. with Jenny (I thought it was really cool that she had been in Allure, not gonna lie). I had been to Alex Emilio's before and liked their work (and their manicurist), but I had been living in Ann Arbor and it was just too far. Also, I like trying different salons (I have been to Bashar, Bitonti, Aqua, etc.) After moving to R.O., I was just down the street. Why go all the way to Birmingham when a great salon is a mile away? It was my first time meeting Jenny and she was really nice and accommodating. She asked me a couple of times if she could get me any water or wine (Alex Emilio's gets an A + for offering wine). My hair request was really simple - cut and color. I wanted something low maintenance since I'll be studying all summer. I had been thinking bangs might be fun, but Jenny brought up a good point and said they would be falling in my eyes all the time. I appreciate her input because I know I would have been sitting here right now thinking to myself "I should've gotten bangs!" She gave me great color. My hair is shiny and just as dark as I hoped it would be. (A lot of salons that I've been to don't even know how to reach that color without going black or making your roots red somehow.) Her assistant gave me a relaxing shampoo/massage and the cut was done quickly and expertly. Both Jenny and her assistant blew out my hair and I was out the door in 1 1/2 hours (still had 20 minutes on the meter). The price was totally reasonable. I'll definitely go back to Jenny. She's super professional and the end result (the whole reason you get your hair done) is fab. Don't go to those other salons that charge just as much to give you a Midwest nightmare of a hair style. Alex Emilio's is trendy and they know how to make you look good. I'm interested to see what I'll end up with next time (I think the mark of a good stylist is being able to change it up).

Pros: Cool hair.

Cons: Salon vibe seemed a little off.

Jenny didn’t listen to what I wanted and chopped my hair with reckless abandon. The following week I paid another salon to straighten out this train wreck of a hairdo.

Pros: 5 minute haircuts

Cons: parking

Moved back to Michigan and went to Alex Emilio based on a recommendation. Left grinning ear to ear! I even accidentally showed up to my appointment early and the staff was really cool about it. Met with Roman and told him to do whatever he wanted. Left with a great color, great cut. I will definitely go back. Cut and color was under $100 but did add up with tips.

Pros: Friendly staff, creative

Cons: Parking is difficult to find

As hard as it is to find superstar stylists in this town, regardless of price, imagine my ecstasy when I found several at AlexEmilio! I've been searching for what seemed like forever, and really believed I would never find anyone creative and talented this side of New York. At AlexEmilio, there are several fabulous options: Emilio, who does cutting edge, yet head turning feminine hair. His work is incredible whether your hair is curly or straight, blonde, brunette or redhead. They all turn out beautiful! Lyndsey and Jenny are rising young stars who clearly enjoy making their clients look knockout. Lyndsey does beautiful color too. I also love Natazzia, Greg and Alex. Jenny was also featured in Allure magazine, where she was recognized for her gorgeous haircuts. I have very curly hair, which of course I flat ironed every week! AlexEmilio recently introduced a NON- CHEMICAL hair relaxer and it sounded like exactly what I've been lookng for. I wanted smooth shiny hair with body, not just straight as a board and flat, like the Japanese/Brazillian straighteners are. I decided to give it a try. Dave is the specialist at AlexEmilio and did an incredible job. My hair looks great even after playing tennis for two hours, I'm not kidding! And my hair hasn't been this thick and shiny since I was 12 years old. If you've always wanted Jennifer Aniston's hair without the chemicals and risk of it turning out too flat, I highly recommend this exclusive new technique, and the many talented stylists at AlexEmilio. You'll be thrilled you saw this review!- MichelleDetroit

Pros: Everything about the salon

Cons: The meter maids of Royal Oak- watch that meter!!

I've lived in New York City and LA and have tried many, many salons. When I moved here I had random luck with other salons. I went to Alex Emilio on a recommendation. Dave is certified to do a smoothing treatment that has transformed my hair. I had him do the cut and color and it's fabulous. The entire staff is friendly and interested in learning new things, and the atmosphere is very cool. I won't go anywhere else!

Pros: Great stylists, friendly atmosphere

Cons: none

Ixhchel is SO FABULOUS! I have very curly difficult hair, and have a tough time finding a hair stylist who can actually give me a great cut and style. I cannot say enough great things about Ixchel. She made me feel soooo great - my hair was so bouncy and cute and stayed that way through rainy snow- which NEVER happens. I absolutely LOVE the cut she gave me as well - this girl is a genious. She's also very sweet! I just made my 2nd appointment and would reccomend her to everyone! P.S. it's a bit expensive, but worth every penny.

I have been trying to find a good hairstylist that understands my long hair style since I moved back to Michigan. I tried a salon recommended to me, but had no luck. The hair stylist did an “ok” cut, but my hair style seemed to disappear after two weeks—it just didn’t grow out well and ended up looking “blah”. So I was on the hunt for a new salon, and a new hair stylist—again. I went to Alex Emilio Salon and had Ixchel as my hairstylist. Ixchel was awesome! She was so friendly. Ixchel deftly managed my super-thick hair, even with my long hair style. She did a great cut and beautiful highlights. Ixchel turned out to be a great hair stylist and I have gone back to her salon regularly since then. She has never steered me wrong, and my hair style looks great the day I walk out of her salon, and for many, many weeks later. The maintenance of my hairstyle has decreased, which I love, thanks to Ixchel!

Pros: In Downtown Royal Oak

Cons: Desk staff is rude and inmature

My experience with Jenny was bad too. She refused to honor my wishes with the cut or color. She chopped the hell out of my hair and over-processed it. Then, she couldn’t even style my hair. Instead, she left it stringy and straight, then told me how cute SHE thought it looked! Unfortunately I paid high salon prices for this mess and it will be over year before I can have a good hair day.

Pros: Beautiful salon

Cons: Didn't get what I wanted
