I WENT TO THIS SALON TO GET A PERM BUT CAME OUT WITH A MINI MOHAWK!! THE STYLIST WAS FOREIGN & HAD TO KEEP READING THE BOX FOR DIRECTIONS. I SHOULD HAVE LEFT THEN. SHE KEPT PUTTING ME BACK UNDER THE DRYER FOR WHAT SEEMED LIKE FOREVER. THEN HER TEENAGE DAUGHTER SHOWED UP & ALL ATTENTION WAS OFF OF ME OF COURSE. SO AS THEY CHATTED IT UP, MY HAIR PAID THE PRICE. WHEN MY HAIR WAS "DONE" SHE SCRUNCHED IT & SPRAYED IT & SAID THE CURL WOULD GET BETTER. WHEN I GOT HOME, I LOOKED & FELT CLOSELY & EVERYWHERE SHE SQUIRTED THE SOLUTION, MY HAIR HAD TOTALLY BURNED OFF & IT FELT LIKE A BUZZ CUT. WHEN I ASKED 2 TALK 2 A MANAGER, THE SNOT AT THE DESK SAID HE COULD NOT COME 2 THE PHONE & I WOULD HAVE TO COME BACK IN SO THEY COULD SEE IT. YEAH RIGHT. INSTEAD I TOOK MY OWN PICTURES & WENT RIGHT 2 THE COURTHOUSE . WHEN I FILED THE SMALL CLAIM, THERE WAS A LIST OF OTHER COMPLAINTS AGAINST THEM ON THE COMPUTER SCREEN. ANYWAY, CHARISMA ENDED UP SETTLING BEFORE IT WENT TO COURT & THEY GAVE ME MY $115 BACK. OH DID I MENTION THAT MY HAIR WAS STRAIGHT AS A BONE 2 DAYS LATER? AND WITH A MINI MOHAWK. I LOOKED LIKE JOE DIRT! THEY SHOULD PUT DOWN THE SCISSORS & PERMS FOR SOME AA MEETINGS.

Pros: NO PROS HERE

Cons: NAME IT

I went to this salon because I was given a gift certificate. First, I walked in and got ignored by snooty 20-yr-olds who forget they're working in a mall store. Then I had to sit with everyone else on a low ottoman that is right in front of the receptionist's desk. It was uncomfortable, there was nothing to read except old, falling-apart hair magazines, and I kept getting kicked by people walking by. My stylist was 20 minutes late and proceeded to tell me she was hung over from too much partying. Lovely. Throughout the whole appointment she was yakking to the other stylists about her boyfriend. Before she even got to the blowdry, they told her her next appointment was there, so she had me bend over and tried to just shoot the stream of hot air against my head. It was blowing into a big ball of frizz and I thought surely she was going to fix it. Nope! When I straightened up she took out a big can of hair spray and began spraying. I was dumbfounded. It looked like I had been caught in a rainstorm, and then electrocuted. I insisted she fix it and she was PO'd. She was yanking on my hair really hard and straightened some parts and not others. It was truly ridiculous. Now it was my turn to be POed. She got ZERO tip, and when they gave me the gc back with the remainder on it, I tore it up in little pieces and let it fly all over the floor. I went home and rewashed my hair, and to my horror it was all uneven and chopped up. Please, no one go to this horrible salon. The positive early reviews were obviously written by the salon itself.

Pros: None at all

Cons: Cramped salon, unprofessional and inept stylists

I'm surprised so many people rated this place excellent & great!!!! Whatever! My fiancee' keeps getting me gift certificates for Charisma & I keep forgetting to tell him not to bother. The place is very noisy, I had a facial done there & could hear all the commotion from the main room. I'm getting married in the fall & was going to use my gift certificate for a manicure before my wedding, but I just don't even enjoy walking into that place, let alone sitting there for any length of time!!! They also seem very rushed & the clientele are pretty snooty! You would think the salon was on Rodeo Drive! If you're in need of a massage try American Theraputic, a little pricey, but in a whole different league.

Pros: Parking, woopdy doo! The girl who gave me my facial was very nice though.

Cons: NOISE, Lighting, Not Inviting!

I was given a gift cert. for a manicure and pedicure when my son was born. It took me almost a year to make the arrangments; I took a day off work, and hoped for a few hours of relaxation. What a joke! The appointment started 15 minutes late. (After I arrived 10 minutes early) She began the pedicure by telling me she was ill and shouldn't have come to work. After over an hour of trying to do the pedicure while ill,she had someone else finish. The pedicure was good, but I never got the manicure! I had been there for over two hours and never got to the manicure. The entire appointment was scheduled for two hours! When I checked out, I mentioned that I didn't get the manicure. (which they tried to charge me for) I was told it was a shame my tech was sick. THAT WAS IT! No effort to try to reschedule, and since the gift certificate was about to expire I didn't have time to take a second day off to reschedule the appoinment. I tossed the gift certificate in the trash! It was better than setting foot in that place every again!!!

Pros: parking, hours

Cons: hard to get appointments over the phone, appointment started late

I have to agree with Renee47. I have gone to Charisma 3 times. I liked my first cut and color, but when I called to book with that sylist again, she no longer worked there. My second visit with Brandi, I again liked my cut and color. However, on that visit, I also made an appointment to have my eyebrows waxed. I keep my brows a little thicker, but I have been told before that they are a really nice shape. Most true professionals will tell you to work with your natural shape. The girl who waxed my eyebrows (can't remember her name) took way too much off. They are now freakishly thin. The next time I had a cut & Color was with Sadah, and like renee47, I got a lopsided cut. My bangs were just a mess:cut further back on one side than the other, and had longs wisps on one side but not the other. Not going back for round 4!

Pros: Product selection, variety of services

Cons: Poorly trained staff, unable to execute client requests

While Charisma does offer a lot of services, I tried two stylists on a couple of occassions and decided the place was just not for me. Both stylists were habitually late (4 visits). The last time I visited, Fiona gave me the worst haircut ever....we're not talking, "I'm not feeling glam" horrible, we're talking lopsided lengths as well as poor haircolor. Their conversations are unprofessional as they seem more interested in discussing last night's party or fight with their boyfriends with other stylists instead of focusing on their clients. Make-up is applied while the client is sitting on a stool in poor lighting, right in front of the receptionist desk and waiting area. There are better salons in the area for the $$

Pros: varietiy of services in one salon

Cons: loud, cold, unprofessional, poor service

I have been going to Charisma in Laurel Park Mall since it opened. Most of my friends and relatives go there as well. Charisma's Day Spa is a great place to relax, seperated from the rest of the salon. Charisma has won awards before and this one from Allure Magazine 2006 is awsome. Charisma is open 7 days and has over 50 employees, like 5 massage therapist, 3 facial specialist, 2 make-up artists, 8 manicurists, and then a lot of great hair stylists and assistants.

Pros: Best Hair Color, Best Hair Cut, Best Day Spa

Cons: book early
