Last weekend, my girlfriends and I went for a "girls night out". Since we arent really into the sleazy "bar scene" and we didnt want to go to a movie, it seemed like our choices for an entertaining evening were few and far between. For some reason we could not find something fun and relaxing, that wouldnt include karaoke. We were looking for a nice night, maybe a few drinks and also a nice meal. Its christmas time, and the only time of the year that everyone is in town, so we wanted it to be special. One of the girls suggested the Comedy Room at Portofino. I didnt even know it existed! Not only was it the perfect entertainment, but the restaurant was exactly what we wanted as well. We had a cocktail at the bar, but were seated before we could even start drinking. Our server in the restaurant was very attentive and assured us that everything would be ready in time for the show. We had time to enjoy some of their steak-like calamari and plump coco shrimp, before ordering a few of the specials. The Escolar and Mahi Mahi were great, and so was the Scallop Meal from the menu. The comedians were hilarious, and the cocktail waitresses made sure that we never wanted for anything. The entire evening was a huge success and we definetely will be returning for our gathering next year.
- Pros: Waterfront View, Menu Selection, Server Knowledge, Easy parking
Watch the city float by as you dine at this riverside "port."

In Short
Down-Riverites in shorts take advantage of Portofino's riverside setting. Every seat looks out on the water. Ponytailed waitresses wear matching shades. Live music--mostly top 40 and oldies--is a shade loud, but it does drown out the jet skis (every night but Monday). Steaks, fish, pasta, chicken, veal: fancier dishes like veal Amaretto, cognac mustard chicken and peach pork tenderloin co-exist with stand-bys like ribs and battered shrimp.

Fun bar right on the water! Great bands! Good food, and they have keno. Outdoor seating, nice and big place. Really fun in the summer. Great atmosphere!
Looks Are Deceiving

I went there expecting a a romantic setting when in fact, on the deck, were a bunch of drinking loud people who were shouting across the way back and forth to each other. You would think that for the price, the salad would have been fresh, but it was brown and wilted. The ranch dressing that came with it was watered down and flavorless. And the mixed drinks tasted like Kool-Aid with a very expensive price tag. I must say that the service and and the entree (which was filet mignon) were very good. The entertainment on the deck was also exceptional.
- Pros: entree, entertainment, service
- Cons: price, atmosphere, drinks

It's good to have Portofino back again. I was there during the Wyandotte fireworks and yesterday, and I found the food, service, and new decor superb. Relaxing on the deck was great and the entertainment was bonus. Can't wait to go on their Friendship cruise on the Detroit River!
- Pros: Relaxing, Great service, Great view
- Cons: Needs sign on water
great food, superb view

"Portiofino is reopened after being closed for a year do to a fire. the food is better than ever. The veal portofino is to die for. Service was great. The waitress was very attentive. The view is second to none of any restaurant on the Detroit river. You watch the boats and ships go by as you enjoy a great view of the Detroit skyline. The interior is perfect and the banquet room now seats 200. The deck also seats 200 and has entertainment. I recommend Portofino to all.
- Pros: good parking, clean, great value
- Cons: crowded, a little noisy
