We ordered a pie with pepperoni and olives, and loved it. The olives were fresh and the sauce was wonderful. The light crust was amazing.

BEST PIZZA but a little expensive. I always get the deep dish with peperoni and extra cheese. Gotta love it

Pizza Papalis is sooo good!! I agree with the post below, it is better than most Chicago deep dish. Although the wait time is long, it is definately worth it! Their chicken strips are very good and so are their salads.

Pros: Great pizza, good service

Cons: long wait

I've been endulging in the simply fabulous Chicago-style deep dish pizza at Pizza Papalis since I was a child. I'm 27 now. Their spinach deep dish pie (Popeye) is the most incredible food find in all of Greektown (which is saying alot because Greektown is chock full of incredible resturants). The flavors were meant to be. This pie just melts in your mouth. The crust is buttery, crispy, and flaky all at the same time and the sauce comes from the most ripe and soul satisfying imported tomatoes. They use only the finest ingrediants so I dont mind paying the extra money for the quality. Detroit is pizza king (Little Caesers, Dominos, Hungry Howies, Jets, Buddys, Shields, Nikki's) but Pizza Papalis takes the crown for deep dish! Look out Chicago, this joint is on to you!

Pros: the greektown neighborhood, near astoria bakery, great people watching

Cons: wait time

This place is average. The pizza is piled high and is pretty decent. The price and the wait are not worth the time. The people are rude. I would say this place is average, get a $5 pizza from one of those fast food places.

Pros: Average Pizza

Cons: Wait, Price, Rude People

I now live in Anchroage Alaska we have nothing even close to this wonderful Chicago style deep dish pizza. I travel extensively and have tried pizza accross the country. This pizza is the abosolute best I have ever had. A little spendy but well worth the money. Every time I am in the Detroit area I make sure to allow time for Pizza Papalis'. The veggi is my favorite with the seafood running a close second.

Wannna feel like you just wasted your evening? Eat here! I love Chicago style pizza, but this is such a poor example that I wont even put it in that category. Pay close attention to the other reviews that mention the gooey crust, and over saucing, Their right on the money.

Pros: None

Cons: THE FOOD!

Ive eaten pizza 5 times a month for the last 20 years. You dont come by pizza this good too often. Great beer prices, phenomenal pies. For those worried about cost, rest assured. Its worth every penny. This is the real deal, almost makes me want to live in Detroit...almost.

Pros: Deep dish pies, beer prices, great atmosphere

If you want great pizza in Detroit and don't have time to get to Chicago, this is the place. Ambience not for romantics, groups are perfect. Found the pizza to be great but slightly over priced but not unacceptable. Parking is a little difficult but walking in Greektown is not a bad thing.

Pros: Food, Upbeat atmosphere

Cons: A little pricey

My fiance and I went to Pizza Papalis for the first time this past weekend. The food was good, but don't bother taking any home. Reheated it sucks. Also, I thought it was a bit expensive for two people. $20 for pizza for two is a lot. They don't serve individual sizes at Dinner....big mistake. I won't go back unless I am with a large group of people!

Pros: Tasty

Cons: Too Much Sauce, Expensive, Crowded

Editor's Review

Pizza Papalis' three-inch-high pizzas are worth the wait, and can only be eaten with a knife and fork.  See the full editorial review.
