Athenium Hotel Detroit

I have to agree this is the best hotel in dowtown Motown. I grew-up in and around Detroit, and still fly-up from Florida for Wings games & St. Patty's Day, etc. I usually stay at the Athenium. Great suites, and a good value.
- Pros: Large Suites, Clean, Nice Bar
- Cons: Location, Expensive Valet pk
Don't fall

Many of the rooms in this building that was remodeled to be a hotel feel like they were built to accommodate the structure rather than the guest. Two examples: the bed was on one level with the bath on a lower level with a 5 or 6 step flight of stairs between them. I wish I had know how many stairs because I went crashing down them in the middle of the night trying to make it to the bathroom. Not well lit to warn. The tub/shower is whacked, too. I had to practically climb across a deck to get in. Getting back out, with wet feet, was an even greater challenge. I like funky old hotels, but this one is too funky for me. On the other hand, the female bartender was pretty cute.

We stayed in the Junior Suite. It was so cozy and comfortable. The drivers of the shuttle bus were pleasant, friendly, and made our stay so enjoyable. The staff was incredible in every department. The rooms were clean. Easy to get around Greektown, Joe Lewis, Ford Field. People Mover right there! Shop and Eat til ya drop! Thanks for making are stay the best! We will be back. P.S. Parking is totally free as long as you valadite your ticket in a machine inside the casino. We're not gamblers - no problem, still free parking!
- Pros: Lots of Parking-Free, Comfortable Room, Easy access anywhere.
- Cons: Dirty Windows - ha!
Indulgence at every level is key to this hotel's reputation for treating its guests like kings and queens.

In Short
Maybe it's the huge rooms; maybe it's the skyline views; or the marble bathrooms with deep soaking tubs. Whatever it is, the Atheneum has it. This AAA Four Diamond hotel is located in the heart of Greektown, Detroit's most festive and fabulous mini-city, with fine restaurants, shops, nightclubs and to-die-for bakeries. The hotel also offers catering, meeting rooms, hospitality suites and a grand ballroom for upscale weddings.
Suite left sour aftertaste

The rooms are NOT worthy of being called a luxury hotel. To start with, the check in was not efficient. The woman behind the counter was snobby, and the they couldn't find the reservation. The room's bathroom had NO EXHAUST fan or window so steam built up very quickly. There was also no hamper for wet towels. The toilet was OBVIOUSLY not sanitized prior to our check in either -yuck. The room had a coffee pot, but NO COFFEE. The floor's carpet was covered in stains. The room cost more than $200.00 per night which is unacceptable given the service.
- Pros: close to casinos, close parking, near Greek town
- Cons: dirty, poor service, over priced
